Dave Parcells was part of the extremely active Connecticut long-distance group. As you indicated he completed both single and double crossings of the English Channel. He also attempted a triple crossing, and at age 44 his double crossing makes him the oldest person to complete that feat. The USMS magazine published an article about the Connecticut distance swimmers a couple years ago. I had a copy laying around on my hard drive but can't find it now. I've known a few people who have passed away "doing the thing they loved" like Dave Parcells, but you just don't expect it at 49 years of age.

Dave Parcells was a very accomplished marathon swimmer. He had completed the Manhattan Marathon several times, the Tampa Bay swim more than a half dozen times, a Channel crossing and a Double Channel crossing. I believe he was the director of the Swim Across the Sound as well.
