There were free samples of the TriSwim body wash and shampoo in the goodie bag at spring Nationals. I didn&#39;t get around to using it until a couple days ago. The stuff smells good (better than Ultraswim), but I&#39;m in and out of the water so much, I couldn&#39;t really say how well it works. Kinda pricey imo.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Swimming and Hair

I tried all the fancy &quot;wetting &amp; pre-conditioning&quot; and it works well, but cuts into my swim time! (Our showers are ALL THE WAY downstairs, and I&#39;m pretty lazy before I swim for 90 straight minutes.)

UltraSwim is my go-to, because it&#39;s the only shampoo I can get locally (usually CVS has it, way on the bottom shelf between the lice removal shampoo and the stuff that&#39;s really for horses.) They also make conditioner that I like, but you have to get it online or at a swim meet.

1) wet hair before going into pool water.

2) put &quot;leave in&quot; conditioner on it.

3) Put a cap on top of that.

I found three products which I think work great! My hairdresser always comments how healthy my hair looks and feels, esp. considering all the swimming I do. It sounds like a lot, but it works for me and I swear by it! Here&#39;s what I use:

1) Before swimming: Redken&#39;s &quot;UV Rescue&quot; (I use Brunette Guard). I put it right on my dry hair, then I wet it in the shower. Also, I put it back in a ponytail. If you do this, be sure to saturate the ponytail holder, too, with the Redken product - it helps it to come out much better and won&#39;t get tangled. My teammates love this product! It also comes for &quot;blondes.&quot;

2) Shampoo: Redken&#39;s &quot;UV Rescue&quot; shampoo. Removes chlorine like no other product and won&#39;t leave your hair dried out. I use it as an everyday shampoo, even on days I don&#39;t swim. My color doesn&#39;t fade, either. Great for days you&#39;re swimming outside.

3) Best conditioner: BedHead (by TIGI) - &quot;Moisture Maniac.&quot; LOVE it and you only need a little. You can also use this on your hair before you swim if you don&#39;t want to invest in the Redken stuff.

4) After shower: Infusium 23. Awesome product - have been using it for 20 years. I put it in a small spray bottle and use it as a detangler after swimming outside, too. When you sit in the sun, this stuff will leave your hair really silky soft the next time you shampoo.

Hope this helps! This stuff isn&#39;t cheap, but it works!!!

As for caps, I use lycra and they work well but I&#39;ve never swam with long hair so I&#39;m not much good in that department.

I am a guy with long hair. I wear a silicon cap, and usually don&#39;t pre-wet my hair beofre I put the cap on. My local pool has pretty good water chemistry.

In &quot;bad&quot; water, I will pre-wet my hair, and if it is really bad, I have been known to put some conditioner on it before the cap.

I usually don&#39;t shampoo after swimming, just rinse and run.

Well, that was certainly worth 2 cents, eh?<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Swimming and Hair

When I started swimming I had very long hair. Somehow the more often I swam the shorter my hair became - must have shrunk.

Anyway I have very fine hair which likes to get destroyed and years ago someone told me about soaking your hair in the shower and put your cap on it before you get into the pool. Since the hair has absorbed all the water it can, it will absorb a minimum of water from the pool. I then shampoo and rinse using a swimmers chlorine stripping shampoo and conditioner.

All I can say is it has worked for me for 30 years.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Swimming and Hair

For years, I bought that shampoo for swimmers, can&#39;t remember the name but it is something like Swimmers Shampoo. It wasn&#39;t overly expensive, but not cheap either, for a small bottle. I ran out of it and needed something once, and grabbed Pert Plus and used that. Not only did it clean my hair, but my hair felt better than with the special swimming shampoo. I checked the ingredients on both bottles, and they were essentially the same (although I don&#39;t know the proportions of those ingredients).

Ever since I was in the Army, I keep my hair pretty short. But after swimming in an overly chlorinated pool, I can still get some tangles in it. So far what I do seems to be working.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Swimming and Hair

As i was going through old threads I haven&#39;t looked at recently, I started singing Hair.

My &quot;teenagers&quot; (12 &amp; 14) use my page when they want to email an older friend or swim coaches. LOL. You can say anything. You can upload as many photos as you want from &quot;back in the day.&quot; (I have an old lifeguard pic from SF.) There are many masters swimming groups, the first one started by Ande. Four options:

I can email you my former profile pic.

You can go to Austin.

You can come to Colonies Zones next year like all the cool people.

You can join facebook. I know you&#39;re short on time, but even doctors and lawyers have to join groups like &quot;I love fly even though it wrecks my shoulders.&quot; (There is the additional benefit of seeing some pics from Soldier&#39;s Field pool.)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Swimming and Hair

Meridius, I&#39;d love to weigh in, but when it comes to my hair, its a hopeless cause. ;)

I have really thin hair and swim A LOT...so tI ry to be very careful.

Since I was in high school I have always used Aveda hair detoxifier followed by their recontructive conditioner. I use these after my long swims. I would not recommend using them everyday cause they will also dry your hair out. On the other days I use Paul Mitchell or an everday shampoo/conditioner with protein and moisture.

I also never dry my hair unless I have too...that can be very damaging too.

Hope that helps!
