I think you miswrote something here; didn&#39;t you mean to say &quot;weigh down&quot; instead of &quot;water down?&quot; But you have to admit Mr. Geek, if there were a Clydesdale Division, all you skinny people could laugh at us as we waddled our way up to the blocks, and then the gun goes off and our times are faster than yours!!! Stranger things have happened....<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: "Fat" swimmers

Hi Jim,
You are a smart man AND a fast swimmer.
Are you going this weekend? What are you swimming?
Shoot, I wasn&#39;t even thinking about Patrick (2nd grader, next year) missing school... I was thinking about my own classes!!!! DOH! Good point, Jim. I know I get independent study contracts from students all the time- I&#39;ve had
6th graders go to: Rome, Egypt, China, Thailand, Philippines, Hawaii (a lot), Fiji... they are a well-to-do group!
I don&#39;t know if I can even talk Pat Sr. into going. 1) It&#39;s a lot of money, 2) His 6&#39; 4-dom hates LC (not enough turns!), and 3) he may not be able to get the time off... sigh.
If I start working the angles now though... hmmmmmmm ;)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: "Fat" swimmers

I&#39;ve got mine but I think I&#39;ll keep it to myself. There it seems the fatter swimmers are usually faster. I think this is because the real buff guys (and gals) are serious triathletes often while the more blubbery ones are usually just swimmers and have much better technique.

A comment after my own heart since I am one of those blubbery ones with terrific technique (thank the Lord for that one or I would be toast). And a lot of OW swimmers carry a lot more weight than you skinny pool people do; we seem to need it as the miles go by plus a shark might think twice before taking a bite of us because we are large.

Broad: woman who is both beautiful, strong, and takes no crap from the men around her (definition is from all those old movies from the 40s and 50s). Gangsters had lots of broads.

Karen: I would be honored to swim in a Clydesdale Division as I have been called both this and an Athena here on our forum in the past. After the shock of it, I realized it was a compliment!!! And Clydesdales are beautiful even if the Geek fears this new, possible category. Especially, if some Clydesdale&#39;s can whip people&#39;s behinds in a swim race. You don&#39;t need to expend as much energy as lean body types trying to stay &quot;up&quot; in the water. Streamlining tends to more of a challenge however.

This is an interesting point, Jim. After I lost substantial weight, my breaststroke body positioning didn&#39;t feel right. On the other hand, my freestyle position felt much better. I&#39;m presuming that it was the change in fatty tissues in the upper body that accounted for the difference. I&#39;ve had to re-learn breaststroke and freestyle due to these changes.

I can: Manuel Sanguily, now in the 70-74 age group. Cuban Olympian and USMS record holder in the breaststroke many times. Since I first saw him in about 1993, I would say he has been definitely overweight with or without reference to the statistical tables. Nevertheless, he can still motor!

When I was 35 pounds heavier, he was my role model. Now that I&#39;m thinner and can&#39;t swim any faster I don&#39;t have a role model.
