Get well soon and don&#39;t be too quick to start up the training thang. Even tho&#39; it is frustrating. :frustrated: Sounds like your body will need some time to heal. The ocean will still be there tomorrow and next week and next month.......well, you get the idea.

How are you feeling now?
Have you seen a doctor yet?
I believe that in a previous post you had mentioned that there were no doctors where you live.
Is it insensitive of me to ask you this on the Sunday when you were supposed to have your (for-you-sprint) swim? (My intentions are good.)

Take Care

But this morning, the surf was starting to calm a little and no jellyfish so most people had a good triathlon.

My friend Jo from Scotland WON her group; this was her first race in her life; she is on Cloud 9; I am so proud of her. A wave deposited her right on the beach at the end of the race and she was laying flat on the sand; it was very funny.

Sadly, a girl trying to make the next Summer Olympics messed up big time on the swim. She left in the group after the Elite Men and was back 11 minutes before them; she didn&#39;t swim to the last buoy and was disqualified; she said she just didn&#39;t see it.

It was an exciting time and there were no injuries on the steep biking hills; a couple of tumbles but no injuries. It was a very good day.

So, until next year.....:groovy:<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Wish Me Luck !!! 1 mile race this sunday

I&#39;m a little bit embarrassed; I asked for good wishes and you all gave them to me. I have decided to scratch from the triathlon this year, I&#39;ve been coughing up a little blood since yesterday and think this is not a good thing. Plus I am so weak, I can barely take a shower.

So my partner from the States, an Ironman competitor, is still coming but for vacation only; he is leaving his bike at home. This will be the first tri swim here that I have missed in 6 years; I am disappointed because it is a tradition, but I truly am not up for this race. If I just had the sniffles or a sore throat, but this is much worse. It&#39;s pretty deep in my lungs and the least bit of activity has me gasping for air.

So, as someone else told me, keep my thoughts on my bigger goal, the 18 mile swim next year. I will lay low and take care of this awful illness whatever it is and hopefully be back training in a week or so.

It&#39;s a popular song in some circles, so you may have heard it:

Guy Clark, &quot;The Cape&quot;

Eight years old with flour sack cape
Tied all around his neck
He climbed up on the garage
Figurin&#8217; what the heck
He screwed his courage up so tight
The whole thing come unwound
He got a runnin&#8217; start and bless his heart
He headed for the ground

He&#8217;s one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold you breath
Always trust your cape

All grown up with a flour sack cape
Tied all around his dream
He&#8217;s full of piss and vinegar
He&#8217;s bustin&#8217; at the seams
He licked his finger and checked the wind
It&#8217;s gonna be do or die
He wasn&#8217;t scared of nothin&#8217;, Boys
He was pretty sure he could fly

He&#8217;s one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold you breath
Always trust your cape

Old and grey with a flour sack cape
Tied all around his head
He&#8217;s still jumpin&#8217; off the garage
And will be till he&#8217;s dead
All these years the people said
He&#8217;s actin&#8217; like a kid
He did not know he could not fly
So he did

He&#8217;s one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold you breath
Always trust your cape

Ah, one of those songs I wish I&#39;d written. If you&#39;ve never heard it, the music is simple guitar picking with Guy singing.

Have fun Sunday. Spread your arms, hold your breath, and always trust your cape. :)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Wish Me Luck !!! 1 mile race this sunday

luck? from what i&#39;ve read of your posts, it is not about luck. i once heard that luck is &quot;opportunity meeting preparation.&quot; This is an opportunity, you have prepared. I&#39;ve been swimming a lot lately, but last Saturday afternoon after completing a 3-1/4 mile swim, I got sick of all things. I have been in bed since Sunday the 4th until yesterday the 12th. I swam about a mile yesterday but all split up. The problem is overall weakness; can&#39;t walk very far without holding onto something to catch my breath. But it&#39;s only Tuesday so I hope that by this weekend, I will be recovered. Thank goodness it&#39;s only a mile swim. My partner is an Ironman competitor flying in from the States; he&#39;s doing the run and bike for our relay.

So I am hoping my past training will far exceed my being so darn sick for so long. I just want the mile swim to feel good so it&#39;s completely enjoyable.

Wish us luck, I&#39;ll report back the results later (oops, may not swim a 22 minute mile this year!!!).

Good Luck Donna!! With all of your distance training this should be a real cakewalk for you!

I am always a back-half swimmer anyway, I let people go ahead of me as I establish my pace and then build on it. Why change now?

I&#39;m off for an ez one mile swim today, nothing too high intensity.

I agree with LBJ, DB. It sounds dreadfully unpleasant to be overthinking or rehearsing marathon type swims in your mind. :thhbbb:

You&#39;ll do great. It&#39;s only a mile. Much easier than 18. Just float fast.

Fort: I love your symbolism: float fast

Leonard: all head trips stop right now; will let my body do whatever it can on Sunday and it will be a beautiful swim over coral reefs and parrot fish!!! Enjoying the moment that day instead of trying to do something that I may or may not have---I say fooey on that now. My husband said this afternoon after my swim: &quot; So what? This Sunday is Roatan&#39;s 6th annual International Triathlon and Pan American Long Distance. I swam about a mile yesterday but all split up. The problem is overall weakness; can&#39;t walk very far without holding onto something to catch my breath.

Donna

While knowing that your (distance) preparations will make this (only 1M) seem like a Sunday walk in the park (for you), remember that you won&#39;t be walking, but floating on a cushion of seawater (I&#39;m assuming it&#39;s OW) that will carry/lift you.

My partner is an Ironman competitor flying in from the States; he&#39;s doing the run and bike for our relay.

Plus you&#39;re getting your husband to do (more?) chores.

Therefore with your local backers all there ready to do their part
and all your fellow-USMSers-Forumites (Forumians? Forumese? &quot;us&quot;, as in &quot;we&quot;) e-cheering for you, you won&#39;t even have time to wonder why
you didn&#39;t see any fish as you cross the finish line (or is swimming the first leg where you hand over to your relay partner?)

So I am hoping my past training will far exceed my being so darn sick for so long. I just want the mile swim to feel good so it&#39;s completely enjoyable.

Why don&#39;t you start as if it were just another regular (non-race, pre-beer or favorite drink/snack) swim? Then -forget about other swimmers- apply more power little by little as you get into your rhythm. This approach worked for me when I used to swim the 1500m (but that was MY loooooooooooooooooong-distance swim) and sometimes I&#39;d surprise even myself.

Best of the best of luck and as the French say (when sincerely wishing someone luck), &quot;***!&quot; (and pardon my French).<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Wish Me Luck !!! 1 mile race this sunday

The others have said it all, but I have to add my good wishes... as was said to Luke Skywalker, &quot;the force be with you!&quot;

Also know your pain having been sick myself... feeling better now and I hope you will too very, very soon. Here are some healing vibes to see you through:

&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;

Have fun and drink a beer afterward to celebrate! and here&#39;s some to start you off: :drink:<div style="clear:both;"></div>
