I felt very balanced in the water doing this technique. Bilateral breathing every 3 strokes. Head neutral, no tension, breathing seemed easier. Even incorporated some side balance drills into the warm down swim too.

I do all my kick sets doing the side balance drills (kickboards kill my neck).

RE: Front Quad/Patient Catch question

Check out this video of Larsen Jensen:

I was just trying to do like the article in the magazine. I was facing down looking at the bottom of the pool leaving my extended arm out until just before the recovering arm comes over and enters...the extended would then starting the pull. If viewed from the side I guess the body would appear sort of like a "Y" on it's side. I'm just curious as it felt very comfortable and easy yet I fel that I was moving very well--crawl is not a tidy or strong stroke over distance for me.

RE: Front Quad/Patient Catch question

Gonna give it a try in a race someday? No, not in a race. Warmup and cool down only. It's basically the only drill I actually practice...for better or for worse.

RE: Front Quad/Patient Catch question

The exact terminology is freestyle ... :thhbbb:

How cool was it that a bunch of our forumites were all in that issue: Islandsox, Kaizen, Dave Barra and Leonard! Kudos guys. Eleuthera looked quite beautiful. I also saw Allen's correction on the 15 M underwater rule. LOL. I liked AJ's favorite workout too.

RE: Front Quad/Patient Catch question

Check out this video of Larsen Jensen:

I too love the catch-up stroke. I use it in warm up mostly. And, as I am starting to swim just a little more freestyle again I have done some pull sets this way too-- much slower though.

RE: Front Quad/Patient Catch question

Not sure what the exact terminology is but I was swimming Front Crawl last night and for a bit I worked on patient catch.

Is there a feeling of almost hitting a brief "superman" pose in the water. I didn't try to go faster but it felt that I was moving faster and stronger and this was on my last 1/4 mile.

The exact terminology is freestyle ... :thhbbb:
