It&#39;s draggin on a bit and not really getting worse or better.

I wake up and when I first move my leg it twinges--just a little.

I feel a little twinge if I kick in ***.

If I put any pressure for on the inside of y foot e.g passing a soccer ball I feel it a little bit.

Relaxing and such; bending, sitting, standing and the motions involved therin cause no issue.

Knee circles to warm up etc cause no issue.

I have one very sore area if I put pressure on the inside of knee feels bruised but no visible bruising.

Is this what other breaststroker knee sufferers experience, or does this sound somewhat different or minor. It seems very restricted to a few motions.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: ...and now, knee pain...

Stud,

I was a state-level Breaststroker in Highschool. My senior year, my knees hurt so bad that I could not swim it in practice. However, when I raced, I did not feel the pain, probably mind over matter. Looking back, it probably was not the best thing for my knees, but I was still able to swim it and so far, 25 years later, my knees are still ok for breaststorke. I know what you mean by doing a dolphin kick, it just does not feel right. Good luck Rich, listen to your body.

I will. I&#39;m not that worried about my kick and not swimming for a week or so. My weak ponts are the recovery and eh steamline. If I can&#39;t swim *** I can still do crawl, back and fly for workout on the legs...
So like Allen said some pull drill and dolphin kick will do...If I&#39;m feeling the knee at the end of the week I can skip the meet. I actully think it will be ok and if I&#39;m easy on it this week that will work like a taper a bit,a nd keep the legs fresh. In the meet we&#39;e talking about a total of 14 length of ***. I did some kicks and stuff this past monday without issue so I&#39;m sure an other few days rest will see me recover. I actually think the icy ground is a factor too because you knee has to perform lateral stabilising actions, which hit right on the strained area.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: ...and now, knee pain...

Warren,If I&#39;m remembering my anatomy correctly &quot;Breaststrokers Knee&quot;(yes thats a real diagnosis) is a strained medial collateral ligament. My right knee was ruined by breaststroke (well and soccer and basketball too a bit I suppose..LOL!)....thats why I am sticking to only the 100 IM from now on....I had a friend that swam breaststroke in college but he was pretty much a pure breaststroker only (and a pretty fast breaststroker at that!)....I noticed that when he swam freestyle he had the funkiest freestyle kick I ever saw....his feet were pointed out at right angles to his legs in the plane of the water&#39;s surface and then they would rotate in and rotate back out as he kicked....Anybody else seen a pure breaststroker kick freestyle kick this way??....Is this what happens when you spend that much time swimming like a frog?

Well I&#39;m definitely not going to risk blowing out the NEM and Zones for a good but for me, training meet. It&#39;s not that bad but maybe another day or too rest and some midweeks sprints will be enough.

Good luck in the 100...I&#39;ll be peeking and deciding whether I need to pin your photo up in the locker for motivation... ;)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: ...and now, knee pain...

OK knee not better yet. It&#39;s improved but tonight was supsed to be *** night but it felt a little twingey so I ditched the BR bar maybe 2x 25 sprints for form, and did then 1500 free, worked on turns and pullouts. Lastly did 4x25 sprints of fly and back..then warmed down with some free.

Not a huge workout but I used the time to be technical on the walls and improve my fly and back.

I have a meet next Sunday. I guess I&#39;ll have to play it by ear. If knee isn&#39;t ready to go on Friday...I&#39;ll have to ditch it and forfeit the cash...

Well I guess I could race and medicate but then that could leave my knee aggravated and only 2 weeks until New England.

You probably aren&#39;t getting the cool glide feeling you&#39;re used to that comes with the breaststroke kick. I find the arms much harder to do in that drill.

Anyway, I have a close friend who is a runner and has recently had one minor injury after another... icing it and advil has worked. The other day we were having lunch and I was surprised to see her order something relatively high in fat to what she usually orders... her diet is very low fat (below 20%). I comment on it and she said she had just read an article in one of her running magazines (I think) that folks who eat a very low fat diet suffer more injuries than those with a higher fat diet. So, something else to think about in relation to injuries--technique, strengthening, rest, treatement and DIET.

Lainey perfectly acceptable post in this thread...can be re-linked to others too if need be. I think that fat is important. Working out to break it down into other little imoprtant nutritional components is important too. I guess moderation in everything is the lesson.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: ...and now, knee pain...

Humm I wonder if I should start a new thread or post here? It almost sounds as though you answered your own question...&quot;It showed me what I need to work on...&quot; Coming to a complete stop in each cycle may be that because of the band you were dropping your knees too much causing more drag. Just a thought. I don&#39;t recall that being a problem for me with the stretch cord around my knees. Another good kicking drill ...whipkick on your back and not allowing your knees to break the surface. This helps you to draw your heals up to your butt rather than dropping your knees during the initial phase of the kick. This drill took me awhile to get right. PoolRat and others&#39;, comments on my interpretation of this drill would be appreciated too.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: ...and now, knee pain...

Yeah, you guys are all really on topic. ;) A little healthy dose of defiance never hurt anyone.

You want more movement/seperation in the knees than a tight band would allow.

Ice is not easy to come by, so I use a bag of frozen peas!!

I mentioned recently that I was training smarter now, not everyday, and it has done my shoulders a world of good. I may have spoken a little too soon, I woke up today and everything hurts: my ankles especially, my right hip, left knee, shoulders don&#39;t hurt but are sore, and I am so fatigued. I was supposed to do a straight 4 miler today, non stop, but I am rethinking this now. I may not swim, or just swim a teensy bit.

So, you have a temporarily crippled friend here in Roatan who says: I feel your pain!! And I am laying on the couch with peas on one shoulder, corn on the other, brussel sprouts on my left knee, and my ankles elevated; I look like a vegie salad in the making.
