Oh, I did have a chance to race Jeremy Linn at the Tropical Splash meet 2 or 3 years ago. I think we were in the 200 free together. I came in second - was quite impressed that I finished 2nd to him. :dedhorse:

I saw your 200 IM at Worlds, Jeff! My husband was in the heat right before you guys. It was so exciting, and the crowd was very into it. Great job!

Scott, good to see ya! You probably don't know me, because I left Austin before your freshman year. But I hope you consider coming to Austin next year for masters nationals. We're looking to have as many former Longhorns there as possible. As far as beating Olympians, I did beat Atilla Czene's 100 IM world record for the 25-29 age group (it's since been broken). That was one of the highlights of my swimming career, to swim a time faster than an Olympic gold medalist. And if the race were over at the 150, I would have beaten Josh Davis in the 200 IM at worlds.

And has anyone here beaten an Olympian in masters or other competition? A few years ago one of my training buddies and I were ranked higher in triathlon than Amy Van Dyken. Other than that I can't think of any Olympians that I have beaten at anything. With regards to top ten times, I've got a few :) Although, last year I thought I had a pretty good year going way faster than the year before and thought for sure I'd have a chance at scy top ten but missed it by 1 second in two events and not much more in a few others. In 30-34 I would have had three top ten times and my 1650 would have been SEVENTH and 400 IM EIGTH! I have since turned 30 so we'll see what happens this year!

Jim,of course it counts. I beat Graham Johnson in a 200 *** once. I've also beaten Collette Crabbe in 100 and 200 ***. Surely these count:rofl:

I once had Eddie the Eagle's shadow pass over me. I think it was him...might have been a plane....the sun was in my eyes....I had a few Patrons (gold).

I met Rowdy Gaines at Swim Across America... and had my picture taken with him at 2000 Olympic Trials. Does that count? :D He was such a genuinely class-act nice guy when we met him!

I watched the Olympics all the time when I was a kid. Does that count? I also swim next to an Olympian in the morning many times. I barely see him as he zooms by.

I just hadn't gotten around to it. Now, I know what to call him! I'd like to know if Geek's racing my friend, Andy Farrell. He lives here now, but goes to NC for meets all the time as an NC Master. They're in the same age group. I hope Geek is nice to him if he knows him! Who is "Lefty"? He made a mean comment about anonymous posters and the utter meaninglessness of the forum. I don't really agree, as Beth's recent thread just proved.

I beat former British Olympic swimmer Mike Fibbens in a 25m free sprint in training. Does that count? (Admittedly he did beat me in the other seven)

Yes, but Tommy is good. I am going to make a huge assumption here...anybody who finds a seat on the US Olympic Swim Team is a good/great swimmer. Let alone somebody who was part of a gold medal relay team as you were. :D

By the way, your old teammate Tommy Hannan has been getting in from time to time with my masters team. No one I swim with is beating him, I'll assure you :) Yes, but Tommy is good.

I do? Oh, yes, I do. But I think that I should probably stay out of this line of questioning knowing that I could probably be beaten by the vast majority of users of this forum right now. With that said, I am improving in the pool, and am surprised as to how fast this swimming this comes back to me.

I almost didn't reply because even though I was on the Olympic Team in 1968, I was an alternate and am wondering if that counts. Donna Donna, It counts! You made the team, alternate or not, that is something to be proud of doing.
