That guy is FAST! What is the US record for the 50 Free that an Auburn swimmer set a few years ago? This guy is within a half second of that I think. Damn. There are some kids in our local age group team who swim 21 second 50's and I can't imagine somebody doing it in 19. That is incredible. The NCAA SCY record is 18.74 (!!!) by Fred Bousquet (Auburn). It is not an American record because Bousquet is from France. It is a US Open record. Bousquet shattered the old record when he broke it in 2005. Neil Walker has swum 19.08 and Crocker 19.18. Anthony Ervin and Jager have swum 19.05.

That's the one I was looking for! Thanks Dan. Should we expect France to be the 50M Free favorite in 2008? From what I've read - Bousquet has not been nearly the LCM swimmer that he has been in short course. He has a super-fast turn and that advantage disappears in LCM. I don't think Bousquet finaled at the 2004 Olympics in the 50M free. I also read somewhere (maybe collegeswimming.com) that he is improving in LCM. Bousquet set his record in prelims. He won the finals with a 18.90. I think he is the only person to go under 19.

I've heard he doesn't do as well long course. If you've seen the video of the record his turn was crazy!

Subirats finishes strong with a 42.52 to win the 100 freestyle by a full half second. Walker does not swim the B finals. Subirats takes first in the 50 free in 19.54, 1st in 100 fly in 45.06, 1st in 100 back in 45.9 and 1st in 100 free in 42.52. Moreover he cuts a half second to a full second off his best times from last year. If he can transition to long course, he could be a major player in 2008 and 2012. I'm practicing for my retirement job as an ESPN swimming reporter.;)

50 free- 19.05 Jager and Ervin vs 19.5 Subirats 100 free- 41.6 Ervin vs 42.5 Subirats 100 fly- 44.7 Crocker vs 45.06 Subirats 100 back- 44.6 Lochte vs 45.9 Subirats This guy is only 20 at most. Most elite male swimmers peek in their mid to late twenty's.:groovy: :banana: :notworthy:

More Again? Men's 100 yard Freestyle Albert Subirats takes the number one spot with a 43.01 100 freestyle going into tonight's finals. Arizona takes top 5 places in Prelims Neil Walker the number one seed going in........... out. Looks like we have a new superstar. It would appear he is only 19 or 20 years old.

Well folks, old Albert just went 45.9.................in the 100 back??? split a 21.8. A full second and a half faster than the second place guy. Tapered, shaved, fins? Yowwzaa. What next? Saturday's 100 free is going to be a doozy.

Really good backstroker who just happens to be smokin fast in the 50 free????????????????? Un heard of. 19.54 50 free, 46.6 100 back-WOW 45.06 100 fly as well-YOW Where is he from country wise, and how old is he, and is he any good in LCM??? Truth be told, a number of really good 100 backstrokers have been good in the 50 free as well. Walker, Brian Retterer, Michael Gilliam, Matt Grevers,etc.

Who is this Alber Suberats guy? And what's going on with Walker and Piersol? He is a really good backstroke from Arizona. He placed 2nd or 3rd in the 100 back at NCAA last year. Perisol and Walker are probably both in the middle of some intense training, with Worlds in March.
