Rich, there will be an area for the handicapped or those who can&#39;t climb or walk distances. Please let Michael Moore know when you get there and he&#39;ll arrange for your wife to have access to the elevator and the viewing area above the pools.

Allen, yes I could probably give you a list of pools in the area, but it won&#39;t be for awhile. I have the SC Top Ten to finish this week as well as registrations and World Championships responsibilities this week. So don&#39;t hold your breath. I&#39;m sure there will be lists of available pools and times that they are open for us to train at check-in.

You might want to start practicing not having to go to the bathroom 3 times in 30 minutes. That definitely won&#39;t work.

No one is going to stand over you and make you sit in the chair; you&#39;ll be able to stand up or &quot;bounce and jump&quot; as long as you stay in the vicinity of your row. Actually, once you get into the marshalling area, you&#39;ll be moving up pretty quickly - and now I have to go to the bathroom!

Nancy
Indeed. I went to a meet in Sydney, Australia, and it worked the same way, though they let you walk a few yards from the marshaling area to watch the meet or stretch somewhere else after you sign in.

I can understand the reasons for it. It keeps the starting ends less crowded. It creates some sense of order. But I think 30 minutes is a bit long to be sitting in the marshaling area. I wonder how long the Olympians have to sit in the room before parading out. I think it&#39;s 15 minutes.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Pool time at Worlds on non-race days

The credentials area will open as soon as the gate opens for warmups in the morning. You will get your picture taken, among other things, so be prepared for not being able to walk up to a table, pick up a goody bag, and walk out in the space of 2 minutes. It may take 5 or maybe more.

Competitors will be called to marshalling area by heats, when the event before it is close to finishing. A certain number of heats will go into the marshalling area, after being checked in by the Clerk of Course (everyone will need to have his or her credentials with them at all times to get into the pool or the marshalling area). There will be 7 or 8 rows of 10 chairs. The competitors will sit in the seat corresponding to each one&#39;s lane number and move up a row each time the first row leaves to the rows of chairs behind the blocks - usually 2.

You keep moving up until it&#39;s your turn to swim. There will be containers for your gear when you get to the row of chairs right behind the blocks. Fewer heats will be marshalled ahead of time for the longer events than for the sprints. But Frosty is right in that you should prepare to be in the area for about 30 minutes. You will not be allowed to leave to warmup but you may be able to convince the Clerk of Course that a pit stop is an emergency. Add the amount of time that you&#39;ll be anxious about not missing when your heat needs to report and standing around so you&#39;re there when it&#39;s called and you can add even more time to the 30.

International competition is much more structured in ways like this than USMS swimmers are used to. We are definitely more informal and loose about showing up behind the block before it&#39;s your turn to compete.

Nancy,

At the risk of hijacking the thread, may I ask about how &quot;marshalling&quot; works? If you are entered in a long event like the 800 Free, does this mean that you&#39;ll be sitting around for a long time until it is time for your heat? Can you still warm up after you&#39;ve been &quot;marshalled&quot;?<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Pool time at Worlds on non-race days

Joy,

If you&#39;re getting in at 6:30pm, you wouldn&#39;t get to the pool until 7:30pm and we don&#39;t expect the days to last nearly that long, except maybe the 800m day which will be the most lengthy (but hopefully not that lengthy!).

I would expect the credentialing to be open throughout the meet but not after it is over for the day. I&#39;ll check on that. My suggestion would be to arrive pretty early on Tuesday morning to get it done before your warmup and swim.

The bleachers will be close to the pool but there will be a barrier between them and the pool deck which can be accessed through a gate. There is permanent bleacher seating, that will be shaded, by the Avery pool - warmups and water polo.

In addition to the bleacher seating, there is a lot of grassy area for blankets and tents outside the pool, a food court with lots of picnic tables and trees for shade, and I believe the basketball arena, air conditioned and just across from the pools, where you will register and get your crendentials, will be available during the meet.

Although a difficult decision, I feel I would not be able to swim my best out there. For me, length of time meet is to long for me to hold a good taper. Too many people and chaos of fighting for a good warmup and only being able to swim 5 events rather than the normal 6.

Instead, I have opted to swim in a big USS meet 2nd week in July that I will use as my shave and taper meet. 6 events plus finals in evening gives me many swims over a 3 day period. I am not a big fan of long course, mainly because I do not train in a long course pool. However, times I have swam this summer unshaved and not tapered I think would have placed me ok. Times I have done thus far in 50 meter long course this season, 40-44 yr age

50 free - 25.8
100 free 57.1
200 free 2:05.3
400 free 4:24.50
1500 free 17:50
100 fly 1:00.12
200 fly 2:17.2

I guess another question I have is how can you and how do you go about submitting times from a USS meet to USMS to see if your in the top 10?

Best of luck to everyone at Worlds,
