while swimming/kicking?

I get the feeling that its not much because i can somewhat feel it... I guess the quads and hams do most of the job and the calves seem to kind of "hang off".

So many peole seem to have very ackward, poorly timed kicks.

I've noticed that there are times whenI will do a big first kick with my left leg. Then there will be a brief pause as I begin to kick with the right and that is followed by 4 fast kicks. I'm sure I've done this all ofmy life. My calves play abig role in my kick.

RE: Lower leg

Last of the Mohicans, the tracks left by the indians when hunting the toes were pointed in, slightly pigeon toed. When swimming the toes flex in on the down beat.

During a 10 hour marathon race I would kick approx 108,000 times (six beat kick) very seldom had a cramp during a race but cramps in the calf during the night after the race. Hardest part of the races was leaving the water after the finish.

RE: Lower leg

oh and i didnt quite get the thing about the Indians:D picture would help

RE: Lower leg

:) thanks

i know it doesnt matter how many views there are but i thought it was maybe a simple kind of answer for someone who is swimming a long time or other

guess i was wrong

i sometimes think that calf is at some point acting only as a "fin"
if you get what i mean

RE: Lower leg

10 hour marathon race?!? very impresive ( for me at least)

I also notice that it is much propulsive when i kick on my back if i use hard dtrong kicks 1,2 1, 2 insead fast fluter kicking

I have a problem with kicking on my back
I seem to be standing in place even when i spent much effort while kickin
I dont know what to do wit this

Any advice?

RE: Lower leg

Better start walking like a Canadian Indian when stealth hunting for a deer, toes are pointed in, almost pigeon toed. Same as when kicking while you swim.

When I swam long distances my calf muscles where in 2 sections (2 bulges) with a large muscle on the shin. This I believe was caused by the flexing of the feet pointing in on the down beat and straightening out on the up beat. People who have cramps in the calfs are lacking calcium and are out of shape and not consuming enough fluid. But I am sure there are many that will have other more scientific approaches. Just because there are 60+ views does not mean anything it sometimes takes forever to get a reply and then you will have many replies.

RE: Lower leg

out of 60 people that viewed this topic not ONE was able to tell how much is calf muscle worked while swimming?!?
