You found the right place and sport for lifelong activity.  The USMS registration is more than paid for in the entertainment value –and great advice you will be receiving from USMS members. 

Since you mentioned your interest in open water swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving in crystal clear water let me throw out an event idea that may be of interest – the Bonaire EcoSwim ( www.AquaMoonAdventures.com ). It’s on October 21st 2006 so you have time to train!

3200 miles go accross the USA border at Lukesville Arizona to La Manzanilla. Drive only daytime in Mexico.
