I swim in my ideal pool every day. Our YMCA built a new eight lane 25 yard outdoor pool last year (it&#39;s covered with a bubble in the winter). It&#39;s five minutes from my house (and five minutes from work). The pool has a great gutter system and large wave eater type lane lines. The temperature is maintained at 82 degrees (the indoor pool is kept warmer for water aerobics, swim lessons for babies, etc.). We have coached workouts with the Masters team or the age groupers six days a week. I have a reliable training partner who constantly challenges me, and I usually have my own lane. And when we swim with the age groupers, I can see my daughter a few lanes over. The only thing missing is electronic timing, which we hope to add in the next six months.

Well, Inge de Bruin would be a nice addition, too.

The best pool would be two blocks away.

The best pool would be fully equipped with the best coaches and a training schedule that fits my familial and professional schedules.

The best pool would have daylight and a view of some sort, even for 5 second rest intervals.

The best pool would not feel like you&#39;re swimming in a chemical stew, before-during-after.

The best pool would have great training partners in front, behind and beside you.

At some point, it wouldn&#39;t matter how deep or fast beyond reasonable limits, as long as the waves aren&#39;t surf-able, and the temp is on the cooler side.

3.5 feet is too shallow. It&#39;s kind of hard to even turn in a pool only 3.5 feet deep. Go with 4 feet and you&#39;ve got a nice training pool. Probably not the fastest pool for meets, though.

The locker rooms are in important consideration that are often neglected even in nice pools. Lockers should be full-sized and showers should be plentiful with good water pressure.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Ideal Pool

Basic endless pool only $19,900. It would have a common hot tub spa and saunas in each locker room. There would be a large exercise room with all kinds of dry land training machines, treadmills ect with flat screen Tvs on the ceiling on most machines. Some dance or ballet rooms, large locker rooms with vandle proof lockers, and a special locker area with rental lockers to hold swim gear so you dont have to carry it all around. There would be a coffee shop that would have a good cup of coffee ,swimming and tri and health magazines to read and some lite fare that would be low fat but tasty plus some goodies for the sugar tooth. A decent burger would be great too. The coffee shop would also have a side counter with popular swim gear needs inside, goggles caps assortment ,shampoos ect plus some basic modest swim suits male and female. In the check in area there would be some strong boxes for rent at say .25 cents each where people could put their wallets, purses, handguns and other treasured items in a secure locker in view of the staff. A couple of nice large meeting rooms with all, the meeting room horns and whistles (conference calling, audio vidio presentation mini kitchen) would add revenue to the site as exercise oriented executives would book the rooms for meetings then swim/work out. I see you have not been back here since 2 months ago. You still have good entertaining posts over there at the Race Club. The only problem I have with the ideal pool is that it would be hard to concentrate with the mirrors, music, and different colors. I am sure some people would like some of these distractions but would it really lead to excellent swimming? Trying to concentrate on swimming technique and nudity do not mix.<div style="clear:both;"></div>
