However, it also seems that it is not as clear as in running where majority of runners have right foot back. Read this: repository.uwa.edu.au/.../-

So, trial and error is the way to go here :)

RE: Track Start Question

When I was younger, I was a "goofy" footer on a single water ski.
This did not translate into a track start for me. Both feet at the front seems to be best for me.

RE: Track Start Question

I tried the track start and felt I had more control however not as much power as a traditional start.

That is why the track start doesn't have an advantage (or disadvantage) compared to a grab start. You lose a little power, but get a better initial reaction.

RE: Track Start Question

Scyfreestyler says to use whichever one gives you the better start. I think it's also supposed to help you balance better on the blocks. I am right-handed and put my right foot in front, but I think that's because it's more comfortable because of my slightly uneven flexibility.

RE: Track Start Question

Ernest Maglisho says that there is no advantage.

RE: Track Start Question

I use the track start because I'm not limber enough to do the traditional start. I can't recall which foot goes forward. I would have to look at some race day photos and see what I do. It's kinda like skiing, I could not tell you which foot I put forward but once I jump in the water only one way will feel right.

RE: Track Start Question

It was the right foot forward for me now the left foot.
