Hi Cathy: I saw this list and found 3 names of swimmers that have swam in masters swimming for Michigan Masters. Marty Sinn - Swim 1962. Marty Catalano, swam in the 1996 Long Course Nationals in the 50-54 age group at the Univ. of Michigan. Lived in Bloomfied Hills at that time. Peggi Wirth - Swim 1963. Peggi Sugg, swam for Mich.Masters in the late 1970's and made All American in 1977, and 1978. I believe lives in Hawaii. Kathy Stidwill - Swim 1969. Name unchanged swam for Mich. Masters in 1988 and won the 200 IM in the 35-39 age group at the 1988 Long Course Nationals in Buffalo. Lived in Ann Arbor at that time

This is a continuation of the first post; email szady@umich.edu with any info I am working on a project with the Michigan Athletic Department, to identify the women who swam/dove in intercollegiate meets prior to the start of the Women's Varsity Swimming/Diving Program in 1973-74. The period cover academic year 1961-62 through 1972-73 and disregards any AAU swimming. The conclusion of this effort will be the formal recognition by the Athletic Dept. of these "Early Women" and the key role they played as the foremothers of the current Varsity program for women. You have been identified as one of these "Early Women" participants. I have documented your participation through my dissertation research of the Michigan Daily newspapers, Michigan Alumnus magazine, Dept of Physical Education for Women and WAA reports and papers. While this research effort has been exhaustive, it remains incomplete (eg. 1965-66 swimmers have yet to be discovered). You will find yourself in the list below. The list is organized by year, so you may appear in several "year" groups. You'll notice that some Student Names don't have an entry under Current Name. This indicates that I don't have any current contact information for that woman. I need your help. I'm looking for names of missing women who swam intercollegiately for Michigan (disregarding any AAU swimming during their Michigan years). Look at the names of the women you swam with, and tell me who is missing. The academic year 1965-66 needs particular attention, while several others seem a bit lean.....but you tell me, perhaps there were years with small teams. As mentioned above, the blanks in the Current Name column indicates that I haven't "found" these women...and need name/address/email information for them. Also any recollections are helpful such as: "she didn't graduate", "she married while in school, Sarah Smith and Sarah Jones are one in the same", "we called her Jenny, but that was her middle name, her real name was Clarabel Jennifer Smith", "she married Ted Smith", etc, or best of all, tell me "Here is her address/email/phone number, and her name is now..." Finally, you know that box of stuff from your Michigan years in your basement/attic (or your parents), or that folder that your mom kept of your more memorable accomplishments...take a moment and look at that it. I'm looking for documentation of meets (heat sheets, team lists, results, newspaper articles, etc.), practice schedules with team members listed, WAA reports on extramural swim meets, your calendar notations of swim meets (home/away). Anything that adds to the historical records of the intercollegiate competitions and participant. Please FAX copies to 734 647-8384, or send details via email. And, yes, your stories. Please share your memorable moments....that flat tire on the trip to Albion, travelling to the DGWS/AIAW Nationals, etc. Please spread the word.
