We should have a bonus race for each meet where the equipment used would be selected by your competition of fellow swimmers... would be interesting. We could call it the grab bag event.

RE: Legskins or Jammers for Breaststroke?

Do the ladies get to vote on what they'd like to see the gents wear during this or any stroke? :D

RE: Legskins or Jammers for Breaststroke?

On the subject of which type of suit to wear for various strokes, I just ran across this link regarding the efficacy of the new suits and materials:

It seems that others are echoing my opinion that swimming is now becoming a “mechanized” sport rather than an athletic activity.

As I’ve stated in my previous post on this thread, the traditional brief or “racer” is the best suit for anything in the water. Looking back to the old days on my high school swim team, I always remember that the real advantage was being able get to the pool on a regular basis and accumulate as many laps as possible.

Happy Swimming!

I will be doing IM and Backstroke too and felt the Hi-Neck Legskins(farmer johns) would allow leg movement/feeling and gain the positive effects of less drag on the torso.

I want to play on a level playing field.

RE: Legskins or Jammers for Breaststroke?

I hate breaststroke. while it only takes me 10 to 11 strokes to get through a 25yd pool. they are the slowest and hardest strokes I do during a workout.

I would think that briefs woudl be the best then jammers. Certainly nothing that is going to hinder the knee movement.

RE: Legskins or Jammers for Breaststroke?

OK, I'll chime in.

Briefs are better because you can feel the force of the water on the kick. It helps on breaststroke more than any other.

I wore a jammer once on a breaststroke race and the seam near the knee kept shifting. Couldn't focus on anything else. And the suit was a pretty tight fit, which felt weird on my legs.

RE: Legskins or Jammers for Breaststroke?

Actually, I prefer the good ole' briefs for all activities including the breaststroke.

Definitely jammers for me. I've tried every combination and the stopwatch says jammers. As to those who can't swim breaststroke, you don't know what you're missing.

It seems like the legskins and bodyskins will take away from leg propulsion if they are as slick as mentioned.

RE: Legskins or Jammers for Breaststroke?

I guess the best for you is the one that makes you faster in the water.

But again, if you want to go fast... forget about breaststroke.

Maybe the trick is to keep the knees together so you don't pull in much extra stuff (water, air, whatever) into the crotch region.
