I use Tyr Durafast (polyester) suits both for practice and racing and they work very, very well. -LBJ

Wow, this is some great information. I will really have to look into this so I can fins something I like that is more durable.

I don't mind going through a suit every month or so, but then some of it's been necessary since I've dropped 6 sizes this year. Poly just didn't stretch enough for me. It was too restrictive and the fabric frayed too easily. Perhaps it was just cheap fabric.

I don't know what it is made of but I have been using a Speedo Endurance Jammer for about 7 months now and it seems to be in near new shape. Some of the seams look a little frayed but they are not in danger of rupturing anytime soon (and if they do, so be it). I hope to be able to get a years worth of use from it.

Polyester will feel really weird at first, it doesn't absorb water like a normal suit ... it's very strange ... once my suits start falling apart they graduate to being a top suit/drag suit

I, too, use the mesh training suits and have had them last 5 years before the seams gave way. I don't like the fit so I still wear a brief suit underneath. These have to be replaced in typical fashion but it really doesn't matter what they look like as they are under the training suit. I'm looking into the new speedo endurance brief hoping to still get the fit I like but the lasting of the training suit.

A better option is 100% nylon. An even better option is polyester.

I have two Speedo poly mesh square leg suits that have not faded or worn in the least in 3 years. I think that it might be impossible to wear them out.

If you rinse your suit after being in the pool, it'll last a lot longer. Washing it in Woolite periodically in the sink helps, too. I have a training suit from Speedo that has not faded in 16 months. Even the Speedo logo has stayed on. And please don't buy a lycra suit if you're a frequent swimmer. They last about two months, less if you swim outdoors.

True, my 12 year old is refusing to wear them because of that. Although when she starts complaining about a suit falling apart, well, there is always the polyester. :)

Polyester does not break down in the chlorine like lycra does. Don't know what the chemical basis behind that is, just know after my kids being in the sport for 10 years, and myself for 5, that polyester suits last longer. They are more expensive, but I have had them last as long as 3 years and actually gave some away because I slimmed down out of them.

It's normal. It seems like suits die all at once, and not in good places, like the bottoms, or the bust become seethrough all at once. Get another one, polyester suits hold up better than lycra.
