I have two goals:
1) I am trying to swim in every pool that has hosted the Olympics, so I am planning on going to head to the Stadio Olimpico

RE: Swimming in Rome

Thanks for your reply. As it turned out, I didn't need any certifications to go swimming, but I know that this can be an unforeseen requirement abroad.

RE: Swimming in Rome

Thanks for your response. the places2swim website is great, as far as it goes.

In the meantime, the whole "find a place to swim as soon as I land" plan got waylaid, as British Airways lost my bag on the way to Rome, and without a swimsuit and goggles...

The people at the Olympic Pool were really nice, so I would highly recommend anyone who wants to get some laps in while in Rome to check out the facility.

RE: Swimming in Rome

I would reach out to the roma nuoto master group. Fun bunch of people. They have different locations around Rome for master practices. Their english is a little rough and I communicated with them through google translate in italian.

One thing you should check on is if you need a health certificate. My entire family needed that in order to do anything athletically in Italy: swim, play paddle, rent a bike, etc. But it might be different for a one-day pass.

Edited to add that Rome is big and congested with traffic. I recommend you also look into Ostia for a pool which is much closer to the airport than Rome itself. The Federal Center Polo Natatorio Ostia could potentially be an option.
Good luck.

RE: Swimming in Rome

First I want to say that I think your quest for swimming in every pool that has hosted the Olympics is really cool. But I guess that also meant a lot of traveling. If it’s for leisure that’s awesome. If it’s for work…well…

Secondly, I keep this URL link on hand to use myself, and also pass it along when others come into the USMS forums asking about where to swim when traveling. It’s a worldwide database of pools, with notes about pools specs, operating hours, who can use it, teams, etc.

https://www.places2swim.com

If you go to a pool on the list, and the info for it has changed, you can submit corrections. Or, you can add a pool that isn’t on the list.

Good luck and have fun.
