If I recall correctly Swimming World updated their system by using averages from many meets, This means they ar mostly converting times from swimmers who are going much of the SCY backstroke underwater which will skew the results for you.

As somebody growing up in SCM - swam yards in college and was best at LCM ... in my view this is MOST dependent on what kind of a swimmer you are and how much LCM you train - long course is almost a different "event" - 100F LCM is probably closer to a 150-175 in yards especially if you are decent at underwater ... so there is simply not clear "tool" ... just my thought

For me, the on-line LCM --> SCY converters are typically overly optimistic. (My SCY times aren't as fast as the converters predict.)

In backstroke events to convert SCY to LCM I use: (SCY time)*1.11 + 1.1*(# missing turns).

So I suppose the reverse is: {(LCM time) - 1.1*(# extra turns)}/1.11

By this formula:

4:05.87 LCM--> 3:37.64

I would throw out the 3:33.66 estimate. The range given by the others is probably quite reasonable [3:39.34-3:41.50]. That's only a 2s range in 200m event. It's going to be hard to do better than that with a converter. I would tend to favor the quick side of that range. I would say that, within the margin of error, you are at least as fast as your were 15 months ago, possibly a whisker faster.

No, I didn't do it in reverse, but I do agree that Swimming World seemed to be the most inaccurate.

I searched “swim time conversion inaccuracy” and the few articles I looked at …some 15-20 years old, others newer…all suggest that the Swimming World conversion tool is really inaccurate/inconsistent. Another thing that caught my attention is that most conversion tools are set up to convert meters to yards, or yards to meters (which apparently you are doing). But evidently they get confused converting meters to meters, or yards to yards. I’m just wondering…in the example you provided 200 LCM backstroke to 200 SCY backstroke…did you reveres that (200 SCY backstroke to 200 LCM backstroke) to see what times it provided? Did it give your original time? — Dan
