When I first timed myself for a 25y kick I did it in :28 secs. Today I swam 8 50&#39;s -- 25 last battle on earth for time and 25 easy on the 1:30 base. I kicked them all in :23 with the exception of the last one at :22. That is a 5 second improvement in two weeks! I swim LCM once a week and that time for 25M has improved 3 seconds as of last Sunday. Can&#39;t wait to try again tomorrow. I train by myself and this was just what I needed for new motivation.

Thank you so much for inspiring me with both this and your swimming tips postings. Acting As If was a great post. I have used it in swimming and also with many of my clients who are bravely facing recovering from a stroke.

keep working on it
you need to get your 25 meter speed close to 15 seconds

how did you do that test 25?
with a board or with out?
from a dive or a push?
on a stop watch or on a clock?
free or fly?

also try kicking different ways like
1) FREE kick without a board from a dive in streamline position
2) FLY kick without a board from a dive in streamline position
3) 1) FREE kick with a board from a push off the side

once you get your 25 under 20
I want you to start working on 50&#39;s

once you get your 50 kick under 40
I want you to start working on 75&#39;s and 100&#39;s

Now be sure you&#39;re working on
half lap blasts, 15 meter blasts, and 25 meter blasts all with plenty of rest.

then work to transfer your new more powerful kick to swimming.

now do you take an arm pull going into the wall or just kick and touch the wall with no pull

You&#39;ve got to figure out how to kick faster
I believe the kicking sets I&#39;ve described will help,
you might want to stretch your feet / ankles to make your feet more flipper like

also do sets where you concentrate on distance per kick
at some point when you figure out how to move your legs as fast as you can you then need to learn how to press more water and get more distance from each kick

are your feet under water or are you splashing
I think it&#39;s faster to splash a little on flutter

try a 25 for time from a dive with no board.

you also want to get where you can make
10 x 25 flutter kick on :30

test what interval you can make 10 x 25 on
maybe do it with 5 seconds rest at each wall.

keep me posted good luck

you&#39;ve got to increase your speed and get your time down
you&#39;ve got to learn how to blast your legs

just kick with a board
don&#39;t worry about rolling when you&#39;re on a board
right now your kick is a serious weakness,
you need to get a lot better
work on your kick for a month and let&#39;s see where you are
beginning of june

I can actually tell you right now what my &quot;all out&quot; time for 25 meters is - it&#39;s 27 sec.
So you suggest I do not do long kick sets?
Just the sprints?
Also, are you supposed to kick as if you were swimming frestyle, that is rolling a bit from side to side thus kicking to the sides or do you just kick down?<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: I suck at kicking!!!

right now I can probably flutter kick 25 meters with a board in 15 - 17 seconds and fly kick it in 14 - 16 seconds. There&#39;s probably a few people who can flutter kick 25 meters in 13 seconds.

So you&#39;ve got a lot of room to improve.

Back when I was in really great shape I could kick a 25 yard flutter from a dive in streamline position with no board in 10.9.

YOU might want to do a few streamline 12.5, 15 meter and 25 kicks from a dive with no board.

I think you&#39;re going to make some serious improvements.

good luck
keep us posted

how did you split it
You suddenly learn splitting is really important and you probably need to back off some when kicking a 200 for time

in college
my short course yards flutter kicking times with a board were:
50 28.0
100 1:02 ish
200 2:16

I&#39;ve heard of guys kicking 55&#39;s 100 y free with a board, I think Gary Hall could.

I think shaun jordan kicked a 23 point something for a 50 yard kick with a board from a dive.

There&#39;s a few guys who can streamline dolphin kick a 50 yard from a dive under 21 seconds. Neil Walker, Ryan Lochte, Ian Crocker, and Nate Dusing probably can. Aaron Piersol would be very close. I bet natalie coughlin in her prime could probably kick a streamline 50 from a dive in 23 high 24 low.

I&#39;m faster kicking fly with a board than flutter with a board.

It helps to improve your with a board turns, but only take one arm pull into the wall.

I&#39;m fastest kicking fly with out a board,
right now I can probably go
50 in 25 or 26
100 in 59 to 62
200 in 2:16 - 2:22 ish

right now I&#39;m pretty sure I can make
10 x 50&#39;s kick on :40 and
10 x 100&#39;s kick on 1:20

I can do 100 breastroke kick repeats on 1:30

on longer kicks or repeat sets when I&#39;m kicking fly with out a board, I&#39;ll take one arm pull into the wall and streamline off the wall take a few kicks then kick fly on my side with my arms by my side, I breathe by turning my head to the side

if I&#39;m kicking just one fast 15 or 25
it&#39;s in streamline position with no breath,
on one fast 50 I&#39;ll breathe once on the turn.

part of one fast 100 is in streamline postion,
when I run out of breath I&#39;ll kick on my side

now you know what your kicking times are
now work to better them every chance you get.

So... 25s @ :30, 50s @ 1:00, 75s @ 1:30, etc. I usually kick a 50 in :50, so that gives me an average of :10 rest per 50.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: I suck at kicking!!!

If I go &quot;all out&quot; free kick, I&#39;m at about 1:00-1:10 for 50 with a board. If I kick on my back without a board, it climbs to about 1:30 for 50.

When I kick fly without a board I can do 0:55 for 50.

These are top speeds. If I&#39;m going 100 or more, the time per 50 goes up.<div style="clear:both;"></div>
