I am considering purchasing Speedo jammers but I am accustomed to the brief style. I need feedback on the benefits of jammers. My main concern is that jammers will pinch my legs at the base. I mean people do have different leg girths I imagine. Please give me any good and bad opinions of jammers before I plop any money down on them. I have done my own little experiment between briefs, workout suits, drag suits ( my typical work out suit ) and regular jammers jammers are faster, usually 2 seconds faster per 100 than my usual workout suit ( the mesh drag suit by Speedo) , I have done open water with jammers and they seem faster than a regular suit, I have not bought a the older generation of the fast suits so don't know how much faster they will make you

I'm calling BS on that. This is why I strongly support legalizing gay marriage - women should be forced to do some of things things that fall on husbands now. e.g. Like having to go swimsuit shopping with the wife and enduring what seems like months of "Do you think the cut of this one makes me look fat?" and knowing full-well that THERE IS NO CORRECT ANSWER, EVER, and that subsequently you are going to spend the next few nights fighting the cats for space on the couch. -LBJ Hey, you can call it what you want. I have never used that line on a man in my life and don't intend to. It's so unfair. BTW - The correct answer to the "Does this make me look fat?" question is to say: "Take it off and I'll let you know."

I have really gotten a kick out this thread! You won't find us girls obsessing over what type of swimsuit we should or shouldn't wear. :D I'm calling BS on that. You will quickly adjust. POLYESTER WILL LAST MUCH LONGER IN A SUIT. IF YOU LIKE BREIFS, THEN WEAR THEM.

And remember that World Champion Russian swimmer that said he prefers "skin" than those new fangle suits. Please, we are swimmers and not bicycle riders. Really? We are swimmers? I know that I am a swimmer that would much rather wear a suit looks like a bicycle riders attire than a swimmer's brief.

Where do you live? Any time I saw surfers, they wore wetsuits (San Diego, North Carolina). we only wear wetsuits from late oct to early may here in NC. You must have been a winter visitor. sd, july aug sans wetsuit if lucky

They make both knee-length (or just shy of that) jammers and something more akin to a "brief". Sounds like you got the latter. I agree that those might be even sillier looking than briefs. No, you misunderstood me. The knee-length jammers are what I find silly.

I wear neither.... There are square cuts suits that are in between the full jammer and the racer. TYR, Speedo, Dolfin, and Aquazone all make them. Arena was the first to make them and they called them the Barge. Many middle age men I sell suits to like them more than either the jammer or the racer. First they give you the feeling of more coverage (modesty). They don't feel constricting on the thighs for you men who have large thighs. That is why I hate jammers. Lastly you don't feel like an old middle age man in a racer (speedo) with your no so in shape body. You got to have a lean mean body to put on a racer....

There is just something fundamentally wrong there. Jammers aren't much better in this regard. But, if you're in halfway decent shape -- I think you guys look simply awesome no matter what you wear. :cool: But, if I had my choice, I would pick briefs over jammers. Of course, my vote doesn't count, but I just had to put in my :2cents: worth.

Real (old) men swimmers wear briefs, maybe with a drag suit over them. Jammers in workouts are for dorks. 'Nuff said.

If you wear briefs then you look like a complete idiot to the 99.9% of the population that aren't competitive swimmers. back in the day when i was racing bicycles, if you saw someone wearing spandex bike shorts, they most likely needed a bilingual menu at mcdonalds....

I like my jammers to race in but have gotten hooked on the drag suits to practice in. My wife bought me a Speedo Endurance a couple of years ago and I still have it. They last forever!! However, it could be the most uncomfortable thing I have ever put on.

I think jammers look sillier, personally. My wife got me a Speedo Endurance suit for Christmas. It's one that goes down the leg maybe an inch and has a seam up the front. I'll admit I was skeptical at first, but I have to say it's a really comfortable workout suit. That's all about personal preference. I don't mind drag suits and briefs for practice, but I still think they look dorkier than jammers and they are less comfortable(to me) than a jammer.

Only if they don't see you swim.I think there is a perception by the general public that it's OK to wear a brief if you are a serious swimmer.Doesn't Phelps wear one in his Subway commercial.

Clearly, the "back door" methods of the "moral majority" have had an impact on you. :) Yea, that's definitly it...living here in the bible belt as made me afraid of wearing briefs, even though I have done so for years at practice, high school, age group and college meets. :angel:

Way to resurrect an ancient thread guys ... Another reason for jammers not listed here is that they can provide some, uh, compression. That motion control can improve swimming speed for any thunder-thighed swimmers. Briefs and jammers, both are fine as long as they are in good repair and cover what they are supposed to cover.
