I don't know of any discounts specifically for Fed. emloyees. But quoting one of their recent mailings, "The Treasure Valley Family YMCA remains committed to never turning anyone away due to the inability to pay."

RE: How much do you pay for masters workouts?

I was just about to suggest the same thing Geek! I was going to grad school at UGA when REM and all the other Athens band were playing the clubs and just about to make it big. Athens is so cool they even made a movie about it, called what else but "Athens."

I'd move back to Athens in a heartbeat if I could find a job there that paid as good and had working conditions as nice as the one here.

Unfortunately their morning workout times end at the time I'm supposed to be getting at work (7am) and their evening practices end at 8:30pm. Being about 20 minutes from my house, and needing some sleep (hard to start at 7am without sleep!), so far I haven't been able to join them... Instead I pay $70 a month for a gym I get to use right after work, but no masters team...

Just want to add that the fee here is for 3 weekday morning workouts, 3 night workouts and one weekend morning workout, you can attend all if you like and if you want to only participate once per week then you pay half the season fee.

RE: How much do you pay for masters workouts?

What polls are you looking at, btw, where the Nittany Lions are climbing? Are you reading the paper upside down the past few years?

obviously i'm not talking football here... which pains me to have to admit, but it's the truth. and honestly, i was talking about the lady lions, not so much the nittany lions. when i swam for PSU, being ranked at all was a big deal. now, we're consistenly (albeit slowly) climbing in the rankings. and when you take a look at the outdated facilities that the varsity teams are stuck with, it's a miracle that the coaching staff is able to recruit any decent swimmers at all- female or male... but that's a whole 'nother ball of wax.

and i think we need to get back on topic of this post!!! IMHO at least.

RE: How much do you pay for masters workouts?

Yes, it is coached. Then, I can swim at the IMPE (currently under renovation) at the University. they have no men's team. I pay a partial membership and then pay oer swim. This team has excellent coaches who are grad students. Many people on this team are not members. I remind them constantly that if they are not USMS members, theynulify the insurance. They say so. They think that the University's insurance covers them. However, I know it doesn't. the insurance is so important. Just wait for some one to get very hurt or somehting worse!
