What county are you in?
Our team is in southern California.
Maybe SPMA can help you locate a team?

You can also swim attached to a team, if you wish, even if you don't get to train with them. That way you can meet us at the meets.

Our team travels to almost all meets within the SPMA, we go as far as arizona and Nevada for meets, especially Zone meets. Wr also come to nationals... and have several members that swim out of the area, even out of state, but still swim for our team.

RE: Joining USMS

...most teams just wont let you be part of relays...

Rule 102.9.1 prohibits unattached swimmers from participating in relays in any sanctioned competition.

RE: Joining USMS

You can check out meet results on this website (see Competition) or have a look at www.spma.net/ the Southern Pacific Masters website. At smaller meets, the heats may be mixed, but the final results are listed according to age group and gender.

RE: Joining USMS

I have two questions about Joining USMS.

1. based on the USMS web site, the nearest "official" masters team to me is in the next county. Since I hope to compete, do I join that team even though I don't know anyone there will probably never meet them?
Or, is it better to go unattached.

2. In an event, like the 100 fly, how many entries are there, average? Is it co-ed. and what are ranges of times that event at a typical local meet. How far do people travel to compete. Do you guys all know each other?

Thats more than two questions.

Swimming unattached is fine, most teams just wont let you be part of relays, and in terms of amount of participants per event, most meets are run just by events and ALL the swimmers compete based on times, sometimes they combine men and women. It's not until the BIG meets that things are broken up by age and sex. By the way even though you are competing with different age groups, you will be ranked in you own age group and will place 1st-2ed-3rd by the swimmers that are within that age bracket.
