Endurox R4 is one that was recommended. Does anyone use this one? Are they really beneficial? :) Any feedback is appreciated.

RE: Recovery drink

I was taught the same thing about milk. The reason is that milk can upset the stomach if you drink it before a hard work out.

That's ironic, because for the three years that I've been working out I would always drink a protein shake after I worked out, but just recently I started drinking the shake (Protein Powder mixed w/ skim milk) BEFORE I work out and I find that my workouts are much more effective and I can work out harder. My muscles don't seem to tire as quickly.

That just points to what I've kinda figured out over the last year or so, there are so many nutrition/workout programs these days, that they definitely are not cookie cutter. You just need to find one that works for you and stick to it.

RE: Recovery drink

I used ot make my own also. But one dauy I forgot mime and had ot buy from a machine. the V8 sounded good so I got it. Now I ussually have some nonfat yogurt or chees before for the protein. Once I was told by a coach (inthe 1970's) that you shouldn't have milk or fat before swimming. I've always stuck to that idea. Bitwiz, do you use nonfat milk?

Real cheap too and you can buy it by the gallons. Try the soy version if can't digest it.

RE: Recovery drink

If I make a drink to be consumed during exercise, I use juice or water. Endurox R4 and similar drinks make that easy and convenient. Gatorade and different ___ades are good, but they have no protein in them.
Adding some protein to your (post) workout drink speeds up delivery of glucose to your muscles, speeding up the recovery and if it's consumed during workouts it actually improves performance compared to just water or something like ___ade.
There are many drinks on the market, but I make my own.
Half a scoop of protein powder, milk/juice and a table spoon or two (depending on the workout) of good quality honey...

RE: Recovery drink

I drink V8. I don’t typically use them during my normal training season. I find I typically take in enough calories and protein in my regular diet that I don’t need the additional caloric intake.

I personally found both drinks beneficial in keeping my energy levels up during these long races and I never had any problems of exhaustion in training. I can’t say of this is directly attributable to the Endurox, a spot on training regime or just genetic good fortunes.

RE: Recovery drink

When i do long training, i use to drink some mineral water during training.
