I do fundraisnig for area nonprofits, the hardest thing in the world is to get people to advertise in a newsletter. You are very lucky. Generally, I've asked for about 50% of the cost of printing. Consider how much you pay to have your website maintained? concider that cost also. Is it a swim-related business, especially if it sells swim wear, it will get lots of business form your readers.

Let me make sure I follow. Let's say the cost to publish and mail the newsletter is $500. You'd ask a single business for $250 to advertise? Full page?

Thinking about this further... Consider checking with a local church that puts out a Sunday bulletin. They often have small ads on the back page. Maybe that would be a fair price to charge for yours. Your 800-member circulation is small (maybe about the size of some churches) but it's targeted, so to certain businesses it might be a better advertising vector than paying for some general circulation medium. Barring that, consider charging a fee comparable to what your local paper charges for a small classified ad. If you don't price yourself out of the market, maybe other businesses would want to play too!

Not very much as most of it is delivered electronically. I don't know the exact amount we spend.

What does it cost to print/send the newsletter? Just curious.
