I received stitches in my right index finger and was wondering how soon i could return to the water after the stitches come out. What is the shortest time that anyone has hit the water after stitches

RE: Swimming with/after sutures (stitches

Do you think that an undersized dishwashing glove and some duct tape would do the trick?

I think I must have slept through that lecture. Now out here in the swamps of North Carolina we just apply a poultice, isn't that right Aquageek?

RE: Swimming with/after sutures (stitches

I'm no doctor but where there's a will, there's always a way. Duct Tape or "duck" tape as most people refer to it can fix almost anything!!! I've seen people use it on their cars for Pete's sake. If your stitches come out, just duct tape them.;)

RE: Swimming with/after sutures (stitches

I once tried swimming with a fistglove on to cover stitches in the hand. I tried taping the opening at the wrist to keep water out, but couldn't get a seal good enough to not leak. I ended up kicking most of the time with the hand wearing the fistglove up on a kickboard. It's better than nothing.

RE: Swimming with/after sutures (stitches

Should be ok after the sutures are out, but not before.

RE: Swimming with/after sutures (stitches

I recently got a gash on my head that required a few stiches. I was allowed to kick with a board but told by my doc not to get my stiches wet ---which made shampooing a challenge!

I don't see how you can keep your finger out of the water tho; better take up jogging for a while.

RE: Swimming with/after sutures (stitches

I've been told that you need to wait til the stitches are out. It probably depends on how deep your cut is and how well you are healing. I agree with aquageek. When in doubt, call your Dr.

RE: Swimming with/after sutures (stitches

Call your doctor back and ask him/her.
