No stores in my area sell these goggles anymore (since they are almost NEVER replaced or lost--they make no money like Speedo does for stores) so I have to go on the internet to find them. By the time you finish paying for the pads & the shipping--it's almost cheaper just to replace them. I did try it on one pair--less than satisfactory results in getting the pads placed exactly on the surface.

Barracudas' maker DOES provide a service to refurbish goggles but again, by the time you pay their $7.50 s/h (which is what is was 2 years ago) & the price of the pads & labor--you're up around $20.

RE: goggles and eyebags

Yes true if theres no swim shop nearby. I am lucky as I have bought the kits for 6 dollars and just the foam for 3 dollars. I have bought the repair kit foam and strap ect from Kastaways swim shop ( They are on line ) but yes theres about 5 dollars shipping.. The only way around that would be to get a couple of kits or see if any one else at the pool needed any to share shipping. One tip with the replacement foam . I get all the old foam off then clean the lens good then dry and put some alcohol
on the frame to get rid of any oil from the hands. then I pull the little foam plug from the screw hole and peel the paper and set the foam on the frame and push it down good. It has always worked out well for me. I should do a web page on this to my cap page as a lot of people don't know about the replacement foam.

RE: goggles and eyebags

Oh Swedes. they have no gasket and are very low profile. Good for "drag racing " in the pool in a way! Some people love them. They are very inexpensive and sleek . However if eye irration is a problem they dont seal as well as the Barracudas. I should say seal as well for people who can wear the Barracudas. Sometimes they have to be finely adjusted. Another thing is when there brand new or have new foam they need to be tightened up good which some people dont like. The Barracudas are also good for people with contacts. I like mine and find them comfortable.

RE: goggles and eyebags

thats a good question msgrupp. I would say to wash them in a clorox bleach soultion every month. I have seen some Barracudas that were yellowed.nasty! but kept my mouth shut. The people probably did not know the foam is replacable and fairly cheap about 6 dollars. You might want to email Barracuda and tell them about the mold issue.

RE: goggles and eyebags

what about swedes? they seem less aggressive on the skin...

RE: goggles and eyebags

may be softer (I'm still using the white foam)--how do you see if there's a mold/mildew problem developing? Every couple of weeks I wash my Barracudas with phisoderm to try and clean up the foam and get the oil off the lens. I've tried a weak bleach solution and that does work. One year I got a little too carried away with the bleach and managed to loosen the adhesive on the front of the lens!
Word to the wise---make SURE the bleach is very diluted unless you want to replace the goggles!

I do rinse the goggles after every swim and they are "line-dried" but still they get a little funky.

RE: goggles and eyebags

The Barracudas are my favorite though there "swim nurd" hey nose plugs caps ect are all swim nurd but we arnt fish! The Brarracudas do have to be adjusted just right with the nose bridge and strap adjustments and they often have to be tightend
up a bit when new. Just dont throw them into your swim bag or they will also carry your towel ect marks with them! The newer Barracudas have a black foam seal that is spossed to be better then the white ..softer.

RE: goggles and eyebags

I've found something that is a little less disgusting than slathering Prep H under your eyes. Olay regenerist makes an "eye lifting serum" I have used it before and after my swim for the past week. It really seems to work. I used to go to work with bags under my eyes but this stuff seems to minimize it. Definitely worth a try!

RE: goggles and eyebags

an old Hollywood secret!

RE: goggles and eyebags

When I first started college, I had a roommate in his late 20s who had partied hard for a long time. It showed. He was developing bags under his eyes, so he started applying Preparation H to the puffy areas each night before he went to sleep. He swore by it, saying that their claim to "shrink tissues" worked on more than just 'rhoids.

Maybe something to think about?:D

RE: goggles and eyebags

eye bags from not enough sleep..also age and are sometimes hereditory...bad fitting goggles make for bulging google eyes....

RE: goggles and eyebags

I'm with Shaky on the Barracudas - although I didn't have any trouble. After battling with them for four months to get them adjusted so they didn't leak, I finally had a good pair of goggles that didn't make me look any uglier than I already am.
