It's been a while for me and I don't know what kids are doing today but this seems pretty impressive. I'm telling him he has a star

RE: 11-12 Year old swimmers

Jim, I looked at last years top 16 for USA swimming in the 10 and under boys and there is a kid from Hindsdale that is on that list doing a 27 in the 50 free. To get on that list means he is darn fast. This kid is now 11 having a June birthday, and still doing 27's, so if this is your friends kid, yes he is very good(he already has AAA times in a lot of events and he is only 11), but no he is not swimming 22s.

RE: 11-12 Year old swimmers

The national record is 22.54. Are you sure he's been under 22? If he has then he's beyond a star. The fastest 10 year old last year didn't break 25.

RE: 11-12 Year old swimmers

Take a look at ...

And click on U.S. records. According to the current time standards, any time under 22 would rank your friend's son at number 1. Pretty incredible for an eleven year old. (And I bet this kid is around six feet tall.) He'll probably join the ranks of the few in the 19+ zone at this rate.

RE: 11-12 Year old swimmers

I have seen some really big, really fast 11 year old boys and none of them went that fast. 25 would be an excellent time for that age. What are they feeding the kid, my 15 year old would love to go that fast!!

RE: 11-12 Year old swimmers

Well, 11-12 year old girls have been as fast as older age group girls or adult women. Males usually are about 2 to 3 years behind girls in develop in swimming. For a boy under 22 seconds is good. In fact, the top 11-12 year old girls could crammed the top 40-44 year old women in masters.

RE: 11-12 Year old swimmers

Your right Jim. a time in the 22's for that age would place him in the top 10 in the US. A time under 22 would make him number 1 or 2. For more information go to a recent thread titled "Top 100" . It contains a link to a site that has the records. See if your friends son isn't listed there already!
