It has a decent weight room, good cardio stuff, and the facilities are just OK.... but the pool itself is worth the fee. It is a nice 8 lane 25 yd. pool. But the best part about it is there is also a heated therapy pool in there for all of the noodlers to enjoy. Most times I am the only one in the lap pool, every once in a while there will be several others, but I have never had to share a lane - even when age group swimming is practicing - there is 2-3 open lanes.

I coach a team a highschool team and we have free practice in an old university pool (33 yds.) - It is 20 miles in the opposite direction as work, so instead of wasting gas driving home and back - I go there an hour early and get in a couple thousand yards.

I also coach a summer youth team at a country club, and they give me free pool membership - however it there is no lap swimming going on there, but I do take my twins there often for some swims.

RE: How Much Does It Cost U??

I work where I swim. We don't have a masters team per se in Tallahassee, so to train with an actual team, we (I) are forced to swim with the USAS team - and that is $65/mo for up to 11 practices a week if I am so inclined. Entry to our pools is $3.50 a shot, unless you get an "annual pass" and then it averages out to $22/mo and entrance is unlimited, and includes all city pools.

I also swim for a USA-S team. It's a flat fee for the school year and additional for the long course season. We only get about 2 weeks off from swimming and/or dry land a year. That gets me 4 morning practices and Sat practice. There are afternoon practices but I have a little one so I can't go to them. Without kids, I could go to 12 practices a week. This team is worth every penny.

Oh and this is in the DC area and with one of the highest ranking teams in the country.

The facility we practice in the mornings is a joint public/private one. That one I can go in on my own if I wish ($8 per visit or $400+ a year).

RE: How Much Does It Cost U??

Divided by a weekly fee, just the coaching is $54.50 a week. I live in Forest Hills, Queens. There is a pool at the YMHA down the road. Costs $500 a year. Travel time is 10 minutes. I opted not to join because it's hard to get your laps in. It's mostly crusty old men floating in the pool.

So I was going to a community college pool with limited lap hours. Ditto the YMCA. These places are always too crowded.

At the moment, I'm taking a break from swimming. I might do it once a month for cardio. That's it. And I'll pay $20 to swim at the Asphalt Green when I do get the itch to swim.

I feel better now that I'm away from the pool. I'm jogging and doing stationary bike for cardio. One day a week I'm still doing the weights. I just put on a pair of sneakers and run. No schedule. No overcrowded lanes. NO KIDS!!!!!!

I have more free time too. Today, I drove to the track, jogged 2.5 miles, and drove back home. I was home in an hour. A swim would've cost me 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Every so often, we need to change our workouts.

RE: How Much Does It Cost U??

$45/month + $30/year for locker. Additional (warmer) pool for water aerobic "floaters" and kids which keeps them out of the lap pool. My only gripes are youth swim team practices that hog 90% of lap pool lanes from 4pm-8pm, making after-work swims impossible, and 25-minute commute from my house. Closer pools are crowded and poorly maintained.

RE: How Much Does It Cost U??

The annual fee where I go is $35. For that, I get to share a lane with three or four other people in a 6 lane 25m pool that smells like fried chicken.

I was touring the business school at the University of Pennsylvania the other day and realized the building across the street from it looked suspiciously like it housed a pool. So I dropped in there to find out what to expect to shell out to keep my body on par with my mind, and it's only $206 per year. I don't know what their pool schedule is like or how crowded it gets, but it was a 50m pool with a movable bulkhead splitting it in half. What's more, there's another pool on campus that I didn't get a chance to see, which has a different schedule.

Of course, the fee should be included in that crazy tuition payment, but at least it's not as high as the YMCA.

RE: How Much Does It Cost U??

I swim at a Y and pay $485 for a membership that covers both my husband and me.
