My question is, are meet officials customarily compensated? If so, how much? Looking at expenses, I learned that officials in our Washington, DC area are normally paid about $50 each for local meets, what I consider a small amount.

It seems fair to me, given the 5 hours they work. I would only ask members of our own team to volunteer that kind of time without being compensated in some manner.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Paying Meet Officials?

In Pacific, I do not know of any case where deck officials have been paid for officiating a meet. We will reimburse officials for gas (we use the IRS non- profit rate) and for meets that are a distance from the officials residence, we pay for 1/2 of the hotel cost (subject to a maxium) at Pac Masters championships. There have been meets where the main meet officials were given a room at a local hotel.

For major meets, the deck officials are usually given a white polo shirt with the name of the on it.

hope this helps
