We learned Saturday, June 21 that Wayde E Mulhern passed away suddenly at his home in Blaine, MN.

This has come as a shock to all who knew him. Wayde was a true Masters Swimmer

RE: Wayde Mulhern

Sarah,

Could you (or other Minnesota Masters swimmers) tell us a little about Wayde's involvement and volunteer efforts with USMS?

It seems like he had been the Minnesota LMSC Chairman forever. I know he had also recently held the offices of Treasurer and Sanctions Chair.

If memory serves me correctly, he and Paul Windrath co-directed the 1993 LC Nationals in Minneapolis. What a great meet. We in Kansas City still talk about what a fun time we had there.

Wasn't he also the meet director for the USMS Postal Pentathlon the last few years?

I know he was something of a computer whiz, too. He started and maintained the Breadbasket Zone Meet records, I believe.

RE: Wayde Mulhern

Ther Star Tribune has made a forum available where friends can leave their thoughts about Wayde. We had recognize each other from previous Long Course Nationals and we finally met each other while racing in Ottawa. After that I only saw him once other time at the last LC Nationals in MN. He was one the Masters swimmers I became friends with who I would only see at Nationals since we lived in different states. Wadye had what I consider the rare ability to swim both quality backstroke and breaststroke. I always admired that in him since I am a breaststroker who can’t swim a good lick of back if I had to. Though I did not know him very well, I still considered him a friend and will miss not see him in future Nationals. After all, we are all related through swimming. My condolences go out to his family.
