Last two months Id say 50% of the AMs have been below 0 air temp. Schools closed a few days but pool / qym at the school has stayed open entire time. Its my excuse to do 1650 warmups. We have been about 20 degrees below normal during the last two months.
Grew up in northern MN and went to a HS swim meet in Int. Falls junior year. Out of school early for meet and was -20F. Got back at 1am on a school night and jumped started people for an hour before I went home. It was -43F air temp. Never will never forget that one. Benefit was parents would always let me drive to AM practice :)

RE: Polar Vortex Workout Casualties?

Wow! Move to Tallahassee. Our outdoor pools are open if the temp is >32, and if below, they direct you to a pool under the bubble. This happens maybe 5 or 6 times a year. Air temp of 55? That’s ridiculous!

RE: Polar Vortex Workout Casualties?

...I really don't understand why they can't have at least a couple pools open in the evenings.

Same here in Seattle. There is a chance of snow Sunday into Monday, but we haven't had any yet this winter and I seriously doubt we'll get any accumulation this time, either.
