I don't know about the 100 back. He has admitted he hates being on his back and dolphin kicking on your back is quite different than on your stomach. I would suspect 45+. I agree with Rob that Murphy's 43.49 is "pretty stout." :) What I would love to see is a shot at the 200 Free. if he could go 42-46+, it would be equally "stout.". Most backstrokers I know - including myself - would say that dolphin kicks on your back are far more effective and natural, than kicking face down. Anyway ... back to fantasy football talk - yes, a sub 1:30 200 free would indeed be the stoutest swim on record.

hmmm lets see here he owns the: 100yd fly record 100yd *** record 100yd free record 200im record and of course the 50 free record as well considering that 60yds of the 100yd back is the same dolphin kick he's already shown to be the worlds best at i dont think that record is really out of his grasp. having all 4 stroke 100yd records would be a modern feat unmatched heck even the 3 he has probably hasnt been done in 50+ years the ***/fly combo is just insane never mind the addition of his free Bruce Kone just swam his first meet as a 60-64 year old at Auburn, and set national records in the 50 fly (24.36, breaking Rich Abrahams' record) and the 50 *** (28.30, breaking Rick Colella's record). He was .03 off of the 50 back record, going 26.73.

... on the 200, it's MUCH less about underwaters than the 100. Unless it is Chris Stevenson swimming it. I watched his 2:10 200scm bk few yrs back, at least 119 of the 200 meters were solid UW. But yes, an off event compared to something 100

Well of course they are for us backstrokers... that's one of the reasons we are backstrokers :) Anyway ... back to fantasy football talk - yes, a sub 1:30 200 free would indeed be the stoutest swim on record. That would be awesome to watch. I bet he'd pull Townley with him under 1:30 too - Haas really seems to race up or down to his competition. Too bad Florida absolutely needs Dressel for the other relays and really shouldn't need him to win the 800 relay considering they already have 3 potential 200 free A finalists on their roster...

Just watched the 100 BR swimswam.com/.../ .Cordes has amazing underwaters, best at 2017 Worlds. Dressel is better. Off the start he STARTED his kick to the surface at the 15M mark. Amazing. would like to see what Peaty could do in 100 SCY. Peaty has relatively mediocre underwaters, so Dressel would start ahead, but would it be far enough ahead?

On the one hand, he only beat the BR record by .01 seconds, on the other hand, he broke the record and he is not known as a breaststroker. Okay Murphy's 43.49 is pretty stout. But I'd guess a rested shaved Dressel would be 44 mid or better. Just a theory, but maybe he coasted that backstroke leg in order to throw the hammer down the ***-free portions. That's where he left the field in the dust. I'd venture to say that he's easily capable of getting under :44 for 100 back given how strong his underwater kicks are. ....His coach much just be giddy watching this guy train.

I'm sure Dressel's 200 back is solid. And seeing his underwaters I suspect he'd be right at the AR in the 100 back. I don't know, do you think he's a comparable backstroker to Ryan Murphy? The only data point we would have to go on is the 200 IM split - he was 25.0, Nolan's old record was a 24.2 split and Murphy was 24.4 split last year (interesting but completely tangent that Kalisz was 24.5 after only a 23.1 fly split). I think I'd spitball 44.high/1:41.mid backstrokes. Might be overestimating a little on the 200, it's MUCH less about underwaters than the 100.
