To answer Force's question... 1. Because it is allowed in 102.21.1B as swimwear 2. Because it keeps the hair from my rapidly balding head out of my eyes. :-)

102.12.1E No swimmer is permitted to wear or use any device or substance to enhance speed, pace, buoyancy, or endurance during a race (such as webbed gloves, fins, power bands, adhesive substances, snorkels, neoprene caps, etc.). Goggles may be worn, and rubdown oil applied if not considered excessive by the referee... So then why do we wear silicone/latex swim caps? Dan

It is no longer legal to use oils etc. for the purpose of swimming faster.

In the 70s there was a product"Time Off Swim Spray". It seemed to work, but is now Illegal.
