Follow up on the masters games... great fun, fast pool, well organized. TONS of social events (opening ceremonies, bands every night, athlete's village with games, bar, snacks). Meet was somewhat sparsely attended but I really hope it catches on with the masters swim community. I give it a 2 thumbs up.:applaud: I totally agree with you Evan! The games were well organized, good pool, and plenty of social activities available to athletes. The medals were very nice too! I'd like to do this competition again!

Unfortunately the open water swim was canceled due to the high water temp. Fortunately the hotel I had my reservation at let me cancel, but I was already in Greensboro by that point. I'm local enough that it wasn't too bad, but still a bummer. I did get to watch some of the last day of the pool events and I got to swim some laps in the pool. I'm curious what people who went and competed in the pool thought about things. I wish now that I'd signed up to do some pool stuff in addition to the open water, but I've never actually competed in a pool meet and wasn't sure I wanted this to be my first go at it. From what I saw though things were friendly and relaxed and it might have been a good time for a pool meet debut.

Really? High water temp? Wow, I can't imagine that. Heck, one of the pools I train at was at 90 this weekend.

The swimming deadline (and some other sports) has been extended until July 10. I'm pretty busy, but thinking about a one day trip to swim 400 IM and 100 ***.

Thanks, I found it! I signed up! I wanted to go to scy Nats at Greensboro but being a teacher none of the USMS Nationals ever sync up with my time off. I'll just have to wait till I retire to do those.

There is a swimmer list (by event and age group) available on the event website now if anyone is interested in checking out what the numbers look like in the various events. How do you get there? Can you only go to this page if you're already entered?

There's a link from the Swimming page that's as of 6/20. Just looked at the OW times entered and am thinking about it now. Hmm... I'm one of the slower times entered (I think I have probably underestimated myself a little, but felt like I'd rather err on the side of slowness in case there were enough people for waves based on time). And I felt a little better after getting to see some of the other times. It's hard to find open water events so I'm excited for the chance to get another one in this summer and to see how this event turns out.

I couldn't find the actual current water temp but I found a copy of the form that the organizing committee filled out with USMS and on that it said that the estimated water temp is 84 degrees for the day of the swim and that the estimated air temp for the day/time is 78 degrees.

Whew! That water temp is still too cold. Where did you see the water temp? It's hard for me to believe the water will be cold in a lake in North Carolina in late July!

It does seem like a strange decision to use SCM. I'm sure there are lots of swimmers in the eastern half of the country looking for a long course taper meet this summer who don't want to travel to Oregon. This meet could have attracted a lot of them. the dates of this meet would have worked great for me...had it been lcm london became a "we dont want no americans" with their 1 year with a european club and then the total disaster with pools and entries. oregon totally messes up family as its durning band (texas state 5a champs) so this meet would have been my "go to meet" had it just been lcm. i asked the very 1st day the details were emailed to me if it was lcm...nope scm...game over i'll be in 500fsw oregon...so so glad its just 500 and not 5000 like medelin was...never again

I asked about a participant list about a week ago. They said that they are planning on posting one in July. As far as attendance, I'm in. I don't know how many people will be there, but I'm not sure we can tell a lot about the price drop because it appears they did it across all sports. I too am hopeful for a big meet but even if not I bet it will be fast and a lot of fun. Thanks for the info about the participant list release. I'm all signed up already and I'm sure the pool is a bigger draw than the open water, but it will be interesting to see what the participation is like. I plan to be the last one ashore, but happily so as long as I'm faster than the last time out. Ha!

Lake Townsend is a scenic lake at Bryan Park about 14 miles from Greensboro Aquatic center.

JS - any idea where the lake is that they mention on the site for the games? It doesn't show any location for the OW swim that I found. And I'm sure you'll do just fine. :)

The 2018 Games location is supposed to be announced July 31
