I'm talking about putting it in the regular laundry with your other dirty clothes. I don't think I've ever "washed" any of my suits. I feel like it's clean enough coming out of the pool, and then showered in. I suppose that 'laundering' a suit with the rest of the household laundry that it could potentially be bad for the pool's PH balance. Any laundry agents that remain in the fabric, particularly softener, would come out in the pool.

Hang it up to dry. I still have a racing suit from 1962 that I could wear...if I had the nerve...back then we called them tank suits made from thin nylon. However, from 1966 until 2014 I wasn't in a pool. Remember the days of no goggles...eye drops, and swim, swim, swim until you dropped. The next day you started all over again. My eyes would burn for hours. If I had to choose the best training aid in swimming it would be the goggles.

RE: Do You "Wash" Your Swimsuit?

NO
Just rinse it after you swim when you shower.
then spin it if you have a spinner
then hang it and let it air dry

Sometimes to dry my suit faster I roll it in a dry towel, then step on it, to squeeze out more water.

after swim practice when I park in my garage at work, I always put my towel to dry on my car window and hang my suit to dry on my driver side rear view mirror

RE: Do You "Wash" Your Swimsuit?

+1. Always read the tag and follow those instructions if you want your suit to last. I've kept track of my suit mileage in my FLOG, and my Speedo Endurance suits as well as my Tyr Durafast suits last about 300 miles. I'm sure that wouldn't have been the case had I not followed the recommendations for care. Sure, my suit smells like chlorine after it dries, but so what? It's going to end up right back in the chlorine the following day! :agree:

My car was starting to smell so I created a drying rack out of PVC pipe that's perfect for hanging my suit (over the floorboard where it drips into the dub where I keep my toys), and my towel. I swim year-round, but don't swim in meets, so there really aren't any seasons (other than the normal winter, spring, summer, and fall).

I swim year round and consider the year to be broken into two seasons--the fall/spring season and the summer season. I generally don't compete during the summer (although I did long course nationals the past two years since 2014 was local and 2015 was by my parents), so I do all my training with the focus being short course nationals.

Can't speak for anyone else, but that's what I mean when I speak of seasons.

RE: Do You "Wash" Your Swimsuit?

All I know is that, if I had used a new towel every time I swam as a teenager my mom would have done laundry every day of the week. Uck ggobears! I am a lover of luxury showers, or at least as good as I can have in a HS or Community shower. I always take a fluffy, soft, fresh towel to practice to dry w/afterwards. I also use super good smelling bath products (Lush, or Whole Foods soap) and take lingering, relaxing warm showers. I'm even willing to fight for the stall with the strongest water flow. Seriously, I usually go straight to work after swimming and try to use the shower as a wind-down and pamper time. I know people make fun of me and my long showers, but they keep me happy and sane to deal with the 275 students I see per day.

RE: Do You "Wash" Your Swimsuit?

I pay for a membership that I only use for 7 months, so a new clean ,dry towel is used each time -- unless they run out !!

RE: Do You "Wash" Your Swimsuit?

lol - how about letting your towel air dry between practices and not getting a new towel every time you swim? :)
