We've done it as a holiday workout in the past (must bring canned food donation to participate). I really like this order, which is the same as what guppy found and posted in this thread. Credit, as far as I know, goes to Larry Caldwell and his Gold Coast Masters teammates. Larry sent it to us in 2009 and we published it in the March-April 2010 issue of SWIMMER.

Let's just say around 90 minutes? :bolt:

I think if it was up to me, if I can talk my training crew into doing it as well, that I'd rather warm-up with the 1500, and do the 800 at the end, when I'm out of gas. And I've gotta do the 2 fly and 4 IM almost immediately after the 1500. Good thing toys are allowed, because I would drown on the 2 fly without them, lol!

RE: Checkoff Challenge in One Practice

Yeah!!!! You bet! I'm not sure if I am allowed to use equipment, so I may still have to do a few events over again -

Since I swam SCM, I did the 400/800/1500 combo:

400 free
400 IM
200 IM
100 IM
800 free
200 fly
200 back

200 free
100 fly
100 back
100 ***
100 free
50 fly
50 back
50 ***
50 free
1500 free

I recommend this order of events! Once you got to the 800, you feel like you got two of the bigger elephants out of the way (400 free/400 IM) Then you are focusing on one more major push through the 200's. I put the 1500 at the very end because if I had an epic fail, then i'd have still done 3300 SCM, and could say I did 17/18 of the events. I was quite out of gas by the 1500, but still went on, determined not to fail at this point! I went very slow, but worked every turn. Did it as 100 free/100 back/100 kick x 5 and just made it!

I wouldn't say it was that much fun, but I enjoyed the challenge. I kicked the 800, so I may have to re-do that one for my check off challenge t-shirt!

Yes Chowmi, you can use equipment or do whatever you want. The COC is your challenge to do whatever you want with it.

RE: Checkoff Challenge in One Practice

Somehow I never thought to do this before. It's certainly doable in a single practice. Cool idea!

Getting 3 of these big swims done will make the rest of workout easier. I agree the 400 IM and 200 fly are pretty tough, so I don't want to have those two hanging over me....I also think I'd have to pick the entire order beforehand, and also assign "quality", "recovery", and "smooth technique" designations to make it less boring.

RE: Checkoff Challenge in One Practice

Sorry I left out the 1000, it was supposed to be the warmup.

Order is your choice.
Works well if you warm up with 1650 (or 1000).
Then get the 400 IM and 200 of your worst stroke out of the way. Use 50/100 free as recovery in between.

RE: Checkoff Challenge in One Practice

I would also love to see comments on what order you would do the events. I'd like people's advice on splitting it into two workouts.

This was on the internet a few years ago as the order in an all-event workout, but I don't remember where it came from. It didn't include a warmup, but personally I wouldn't want to start a workout with a 200 fly.

I do know teams that have motivational programs in place to complete it over the course of one calendar year. You may want to look at teams that are completing a Brute Challenge in one workout, like Davis Aquatics Maters (DamFast.org).

I have personally completed the checkoff challenge, with planning, three times in a single calendar year.
