Wear jammers or square legs.  Get some goggles that fit.  Lower profile ones are better, no masks.

Not to be a naysayer, but it might…MIGHT…be more than what you’re ready for right now. Most masters groups accept all levels of swimmers, and they’ll provide a structured workout for the various levels/abilities. But if you’re just swimming for fitness, a structured workout might be more than what you want…at least at this early stage. You might want to get a good swimming base before you join a masters group. But, if you think you’re ready…by all means go for it.
