If you are sitting on the bottom row you will get splashed as the swimmer in lane one goes by. So, 1st heat of boys open 400 IM. The young man in lane one is an older boy

RE: A funny from swim meet

&#39;seems appropriate to insert a link to this thread:

Several of us stood at the start end to encourage her. She gave us a look at the 100 that she wasn&#39;t very happy. She took a long turn and headed for the fifth length. At the 125 she touched the wall and then got out all in one motion. She spoke with some people she didn&#39;t know at the turn end and they apparently encouraged her to keep going. So she jumped back in and swam the 6th length. Then at the 150 she finally gave up and stopped.

She said she wanted to stop at the 100 but knew we were all there and would have shouted to keep swimming, so she thought she&#39;d do that fifth length and then stop because she didn&#39;t know anybody down there.<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: A funny from swim meet

My friend and USAS official Sharon slipping into the pool gracefully as a stroke and turns judge..amazing she got her head set off and it never got wet.....sadly she&#39;s retired now..<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: A funny from swim meet

When I was coaching my H S girls team in the 80&#39;s, the girls were allowed by the head coach to listen to music on their Diskman during the long diving event. a diver from the other team was on the board when one girl from our team looked up and said in a loud voice that was heard by all --&quot;look at the boobs on her!!!&quot; I reacted in shock &amp; ran over to her and yanked off the headphones &amp; said &quot;every person in the pool area just heard what you said!&quot; The meet official looked at us coaches for a long few seconds &amp; asked the girl if she wanted to continue. In the heat ahead of me, an older man (Walt) came in at 50 meters and stopped at the wall. The timers (who apparently knew him) yelled out &quot;Walt, you&#39;ve got 50 left!&quot;. Walt looked dubious at first but realized everyone else was swimming so he probably should be also. So, he pushed off to finish the race. As he was swimming away, one of the timers said (but thankfully didn&#39;t actually do), &quot;when he gets back, let&#39;s tell him he&#39;s got another 50 left.&quot;<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: A funny from swim meet

A couple of years ago, after years of only pool swimming, when I got to my first open water race, in the ocean, my teammate who was running the event said, &quot;you know, Rich, there&#39;s no line on the bottom.&quot;<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: A funny from swim meet

After decades of youth coaching, I saw this at my first LC masters meet. Another coach of a medium-sized team dutifully paced the length of the pool closest to whichever lane any of his swimmers were in. Taking splits and notes, he&#39;d occasionally give a well-placed hoot or holler of encouragement. At the 125 mark of a women&#39;s 200 back, his middle-aged, middle of the pack swimmer looked straight at him and yelled, &quot;Where are they?&quot; It wasn&#39;t a particularly loud moment, so we heard his reply, &quot;What?&quot; She then asked more clearly, &quot;How far ahead are they?&quot; After a quick look he told her, &quot;About 10 meters.&quot; The conversation then ended with a polite, &quot;Thanks.&quot; She didn&#39;t make any changes or swim differently after that, she was just curious.
That&#39;s the moment I new I&#39;d entered a new swimming world.:banana:<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: A funny from swim meet

He looked at me and said &#8220;Oh, thanks! He&#8217;s always been an active supporter of the event, and several years he actually swam it. One year, minutes before the swim was set to begin&#8230;I saw him struggling to get his wetsuit on. He was off to the side, all alone, with none of his &#8220;people&#8221; around. Then I thought&#8230;that&#8217;s strange&#8230;most swimming wetsuits have the zipper in the back. He was trying to zip up the front. Immediately I realized that he was putting the thing on backwards. So I walked over and whispered in his ear &#8220;Congressman, the zipper goes in the back.&#8221; He looked at me and said &#8220;Oh, thanks! Vote for me in November.&#8221;

One of the ladies was a bit grumpy from coming in late and starting a bit late so I tried to get her to lighten up a bit. I started doing the Dougie and sprinkler dances on the side (which got a laugh from one of the other ladies), but all she did was look me in the eye on a breath and flip me off mid stroke. I died laughing. We were at a small pool in Tulsa (I think) where there was hardly any deck space on one side of the pool for the coaches. The 13-14 boys&#39; 100 backstroke started and Robert was in lane 8 (right next to us coaches). Robert&#39;s mom commenced her usual screaming from the upper level seating across the pool. At about the 60 yard point of the race, as Robert&#39;s mom screamed her usual &quot;Go Robert, kick Robert,&quot; Robert stopped, stood up in his lane and shouted, &quot;I AM!!!&quot; He then finished his swim.
