I&#39;m sorry we have crossed paths so many times without meeting. Next time you see me, stop and say &quot;hi,&quot; ok? Although I can&#39;t compete at the Georgia Tech meet (I won&#39;t have doctor&#39;s clearance just yet), I may go to snap some photos and cheer on my buddies. :cheerleader: Will you be there?

Yes, my plan is to swim that meet! Originally, I was planning to swim the max (plus relays) but with this arm/shoulder issue I&#39;m not sure what I&#39;ll be swimming. I train with Francis Meadows Aquatic Ctr. in Gainesville. We have a small contingent of swimmers who compete.

It was the St. Pat&#39;s meet write-up. I swam both days at that meet and I saw myself in the March newsletter. :)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Coming back after pinched nerve?

Yes, my plan is to swim that meet! I checked out your profile on here, so I knew you were on the Francis Meadows team. That is how I knew I didn&#39;t know you. (OK, that sounds funny reading it back, but you know what I mean! :D)

I hope to catch up with you at GA Tech. Good luck with your PT and neck in the meantime. I hope you&#39;re 100% for the meet!<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Coming back after pinched nerve?

Hey Elaine! Thanks for the information. I knew physical therarpy is something I have to continue but had not thought about how long I would have to keep doing the exercises. I have started some PT and it is getting better. (very slowly) I guess I am just impatient!

We have crossed paths at several meets but never actually met. I recognized you from your profile pic! In the article you submitted for the newsletter I am in one of the photos. :) (wearing a US Masters cap)<div style="clear:both;"></div>

RE: Coming back after pinched nerve?

Hey Elaine! Don&#39;t let your impatience win out, because you&#39;re goal (I would hope) is to be able to swim strong and pain-free for life. I&#39;m sure there are plenty of people out there who stop doing their exercises and do just fine after rehab., but I&#39;m not one of those willing to take that chance. :nono: I figure there is no downside and plenty of positives to continuing exercises I learned in PT. I hope you choose the same path. Good luck!

What kind of time frame? Any advice is appreciated!
Hello to my Georgia Masters teammate, although I don&#8217;t believe we have met. (I&#8217;m a GAJA Killer Whale living in Griffin.)

Two years ago, I had the same pain you are experiencing. It turned out I had a boatload of issues at C5-7 including degenerative disks and bridging osteophytes. I went through a course of PT and have been pain-free ever since, but I continue to do my exercises daily to stay that way.

Whether you will regain strength without PT and the time it will take to heal is different with everybody depending on the severity, and what you do to make it better (or make it worse). Your doctor should be able to give you a better idea.

In my opinion, PT is an excellent treatment option, especially if you learn exercises to strengthen the surrounding muscles, and continue to do them daily- for life. As a PT veteran, I know this from experience. I had back surgery in 1987 and surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome in 2003, and continue to be pain-free in both my back and shoulders. I attribute this to swimming AND doing my PT exercises on a daily basis. This past December, I had hip surgery, and I have added those PT exercises to the mix. (In case you&#8217;re wondering, no, neither of these surgeries were swimming-related. I just inherited bad genes&#8230;)

Whatever you choose to do, just make sure to listen to your doctor and/or therapist , and be a good patient! Do exactly as they say, and continue to do your exercises for life. :agree:

Good luck!
