Here are some 2014 statistics: www.usms.org/.../reg_stats.pdf That's a great chart. I would bet 20-30 years ago the highest % of male and female swimmers would have been in the 30-34 age group. It would be interesting to see a similar chart done with only swimmers who compete in meets. All too often swimmers drop out of the meet circuit using the excuse "I can't go as fast as I used to anymore". When I ask them "why do you think there age groups" they usually have no answer.

The USA Swimming stats are a little disappointing with the numbers declining steadily for swimmers over 12 years old. There are just slightly more than half 16 year olds as there are 12 year olds.

Interesting stats. What's the overall percentage of men vs. women in USMS? I wouldn't have expected there to be so many more men, but maybe it's a legacy of women not participating in sports as much as men historically. Here are some 2014 statistics: www.usms.org/.../reg_stats.pdf

Well how many swimmers of that age do you see? I mean actually swimming for fitness and not just splashing around. I never see swimmers of that age. Even the seniors participating in the aquarobics class in the shallow end aren't that old. (When they get to that age, you generally don't ask. :)) Then there is Robert Marchand: 102-year old Robert Marchand beats own hour record I got a good chuckle from this: "With doping I could have ridden faster," Marchand joked.

Jurgen is an amazing man. I have met him, and speak with him, at many swim meets in So. Calif. when I see him. Perhaps Speedo is acknowledging the $ilver Dollar age category!? In any case its nice to see someone like Jurgen in a commercial directed towards the common man.

Jurgen is a cool dude. I sat next to him a couple years ago at the SPMS long course championships at Mission Viejo. I'm pretty sure he swam more than I did! Great commercial!
