If you totaled across all eight events she swam this past weekend, she dropped well over a minute. I think this is by far the most important stat. She dropped a ton of time. The conversions should only be used as a general guide. You really need to compare apples to apples, and LCM to SCY is definitely not that. Here's something to consider. I would guess the conversions are based on time comparisons for elite swimmers. Elite swimmers (generally) have great walls. That means they are going to be "faster" comparatively to slower swimmers when going from long course to short course because they are gaining so much from the extra turns.

Thanks everyone for your replies! They are basically told her mother. And, her mother is very supportive, but this is just the first time there ever was a chance to compare times.

It may have nothing to do with the conversion, just the time frames compared here. Example: Swims LCM and sets PBs (Swim A) Trains all winter Swims SCY and sets PBs (Swim B) The next week Swims LCM and sets new PBs (Swim C) Swim A - Swim C = Big Drop Swim C ~= Swim B Can you give us the timing of the three swims?

I think the swimmer should consider changing mothers and to find one who is more supportive regardless of how much or how little she has improved...:bolt: I have to agree with Mr. Roddin here. How old is the swimmer anyway? How much improvement does the mommy expect? Swimmers go through stages where there big drops and stages where there are no drops or very little drops.

LCM is just a different animal from SCY. Swimming LCM is equivalent to playing with this ... i214.photobucket.com/.../hairlessbear.jpg Whereas swimming SCY is equivalent to cuddling with this www.polyvore.com/.../img-thing Converting SCY to LCM and vice-versa just doesn't make sense. You can find plenty of examples of great SCY swimmers who, on a converted basis don't look as 'great' long course and vice versa. They are VERY different.

Her mother is concerned that there hasn’t been as much improvement as there should have been. What do you all think? Reason for concern or not? I think the swimmer should consider changing mothers and to find one who is more supportive regardless of how much or how little she has improved...:bolt:

I agree with Kirk.She is better and should rejoice. With so much time spent underwater in SCY there is just no way to have an accurate conversion that works for everyone,or even most people. LCM is just a different animal from SCY.
