Also non-chafing would be good. Would it be better to get a tighter or looser fit? Have the non-swimming masses decided that rash guards are fashionable now?

RE: Swim shirt with UV protection

I ended up buying a Dakine short sleeve rashguard online ($23). They had a size chart and I found a good match. It was snug and thats what I wanted. I quickly became accustom to it while swimming and did not notice any drag. This shirt has built in UV protection or at least thats what the marketing department says ;) Also no chaffing after a 2 hour swim :)

RE: Swim shirt with UV protection

Hi Mark,

I wear a UV swim shirt for Masters practice for protection from the Florida sun. It took about four tries to find a UV shirt/rash guard that worked for me. I've ended up wearing an O' Neill rash guard ordered online. The 'model' I like is called Basic Skins, about $30.00. Started with a larger size and found it floated up and caused additional drag. I've ended using a tighter short sleeve rash guard as getting into the pool seems to loosen the fabric. The O' Neill fabric seems durable and hasn't chaffed. I recommend ordering a size smaller than your normal and the shirt should fit very snugly. I swim early mornings without the shirt and I don't notice much of difference drag wise with or without the top.
Good luck

RE: Swim shirt with UV protection

Thanks. Yeah, I don't want a drag suit (top), so i agree, a tighter fit sounds good. I was checking out some of the sponsors of USMS, Swimoutlet for example, they have a bunch of options there.

RE: Swim shirt with UV protection

I don't know if it would work well, but have you tried the body armor tops? I'd imagine you wouldn't want a loose fit as it might slow you down which is why I think body armor would do. It is designed to keep you cool too. Best of luck!
