The glute muscles that move the legs away from the body (laterally) are "abductors."

RE: Sore inner thigh hips from BR?

What do you mean by, "a lot," of breaststroke?

I've done as much as 1200 yards in a workout, and never gotten sore thighs. I sometimes get sore knees, but that is a combination of *** + cycling.

I do at least 1-200 easy free before I do any breaststroke, usually much more than that. I couldn't imagine diving in and going right into a *** breakout cold. After 200, I may mix in a 25 *** for every 75 free, 3-4 rounds, before doing any real *** sets.

RE: Sore inner thigh hips from BR?

Breaststroke is tricky because it uses different muscles than other strokes and puts strain on the knees.I almost never do BR kick sets in practice, preferring to kick full stroke since you keep your momentum that way and put less stress on the joints.I warm up for swimming BR very slowly:50 extremely slow,50 at slow, 50 at slower than 200 pace,50 at 200 pace,50 working on DPS,before I do ant BR sets.
BR definitely uses the inner thigh muscles, but that doesn't mean you should kick out and then squeeze in during the kick,as I have noted before there is no kick out in BR kick.

RE: Sore inner thigh hips from BR?

What did she have u do? Constantly! :badday: Two years ago, at the St. Nick's meet at Georgia Tech, the water was cold which I LOVE. But, I (evidently) wasn't quite warmed up enough when I went off the blocks for a practice breaststroke start during warm-ups and pulled a muscle during the breakout. Since then, it has been a constant problem. Every time I try to build back up on my breaststroke training, my leg :bitching: at me and I have to back off again. Breaststroke kick sets? Fuhhhgetabout it...

As a happy ending to the story, though, I am going to physical therapy with a therapist who happens to be a USMS breaststroker. She gave me some exercises to do for my legs. :bliss:

RE: Sore inner thigh hips from BR?

The old good girl bad girl machine. Ha! I thought about that.

This worked for me. I was actually getting so sore that I'd pull the muscles while doing other things. I had a serious muscle imbalance.
Another thing that helps is to flatten out your kick, if it's not pretty flat already.

RE: Sore inner thigh hips from BR?

This is exactly what I was refering to Super Chloe... think it was because I was really unlocking my hips for the first time and testing my flexibility. Your groin?
I sometimes get groin pain from kicking breastroke. When it happens I quit for a while like several days or a week then retest it later
you don't want to pull your groin or anything else

if you feel pain please use your brain
and stop doing what's causing it
a stitch in time, often saves nine
with rest and time you should be fine
