So after some recovery and since I won't have to worry about upcoming meets for a while after that I was briefly considering that 4300 IM for my 43rd. Sort of an odd distance which would require keeping track of 1075 of everything... I just don't think my fly is going to be ready by that point; so maybe 10 x 400 IM followed by a 300 IM.

RE: It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want To...

Got a Birthday Email from USMS today! There are actually some 20 yard pools still around. When I was in college (late 90s) the University of Chicago (in our conference) still had a 20 yard pool so their home meets were held elsewhere. I looked it up recently and they now have a very nice pool that opened in the early 2000s. The University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University recently had a dual meet in a 20 yard pool (adjustable bulkhead) so that they could break a bunch of the old 20 yard records.

RE: It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want To...

4200IM - nooooo! paaaaaain!!

I've actually done a 420 "long course yards" IM. There are actually quite a few 55 yd pools around here. It makes the 1650 exactly 30 lengths.

RE: It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want To...

I turn 64 tomorrow(which is an even square) and will swim in a 20M pool which gives me all sorts of possibilities.I haven't decided what I'll do,but since I am not a distance swimmer it will not total 6400M.I want to celebrate my birthday, not suffer over it.Maybe a main set of 8X80 BR at various paces(20 AFAP with 60 recovery,40 at 100 pace with 40 recovery,80 at 200 pace etc.)

RE: It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want To...

42IM - if done in a 10.5m 'pool', how much actual swimming would there be?

Hmmmm, I turned 51 last month and took the day off from swimming, since it was Sunday (my usual one day off each week). Perhaps I should make up for it when I return to Sanibel, Florida, so I can swim a 5100 IM in this pool:

I'm turning 36, which is a square number, so I'll try to come up with something relating to that. I could always do 6 x 600 or 6 sets of 6 x 100 but maybe I (or you!) can come up with something more creative.

(One of the perils of being the child of a mathematician is that you are always looking for "cool" features of numbers.)

Remember too that there are 36 inches in a one yard swim, so if you are tired, tapering, or not feeling well, you only have to jump into the pool 1 yard to reach a "36" inch workout. :) But, in case you are more motivated, remember too that 36 is a very cool number and age with lots of integer "goesintos" like 1x36, 2x18, 3x12, and 4x9, so the 6x6 sq need not get all of the attention. And then there's great potential for combinations like 3x thru a 3x4 (100s) and 4x thru a 3x3 (75s). Thinking 37 will be a lot more difficult. Happy Birthday on Vday and wishing good swims at Auburn. I did the Atlantic City Pageant Swim just before my last bday and had a great time.

RE: It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want To...

How bout an I M with your age as the total ?? “It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want to”
Many swimmers do special things for a birthday swim such as swimming their age number of 50’s or 100’s. Some may be even more creative! What do you do?

For our birthday swims the birthday person makes to workout. The total yardage is related to their age. 32, then the workout will be a 3200, 41 then the workout a 4100, etc. Afterwards we head to BJs for lunch and some birthday beers. I really love the group I swim with.:cake:
