Ahh, Monsieur Fresnoid, you but raced a mere 3,100 meters with lots and lots of turns whereas, with my 4K OW swim on Sunday, I logged 4,400 meters with only 15 turns. Who's the slug? :bump: :cane: But with my knees, all those turns actually made it harder than a leisurely uninterrupted open swim. :duel:

Back to the original topic. I'm completely justified to be disparaging about pwb's intestinal fortitude at this meet. He only did the 400 IM (a fine one it was, faster than most of us can do a 400 free). However, I did the 200,400,800,1500 Free and 200 Fly (that last one was a BIG mistake). There was nothing more fun for me to watch than my son in the 400 IM - even at the fly/back turn, a bit behind at the back/*** turn & a lap ahead going into the free. It was/is a beautiful thing. Just sayin'.

Our new aquatic sport could have several events too, dedicated to frog and scissor kicking. We would then have breaststroke, trudgen crawl, side stroke and elementary backstroke!! Chris isn't going to like this, but let's throw underwater swimming in, too. Revise the rules for the real strokes to allow no more than 10meters underwater. :bolt:

Um, I am not really upset about limiting underwater in an imaginary race involving elementary backstroke and trudgen crawl...seems like (as in any decision to swim breaststroke) doing such a race means you've decided to forego any hope of swimming fast. So sure, limit SDKs... Not to worry, my completely legit, not-at-all-made-up swim obeyed all rules, including the rules that haven't been created yet and the rules that contradict other rules. Did I just cause anyone to divide by zero?

Just doing the 400 IM then going home? Pacific Masters SCM Oct 12-14: www.swimphone.com/.../event_order.cfm still feel cheated by missing the 400 LCM IM at this summer's Pacific Champs. I'm really hoping to squeeze this in on Friday morning; I'm very happy that: a) It's the first event b) They are running fast to slow, and c) There are a small number of entries

The world's greatest event isn't even offered in a meet, that being the 3K. Until it is, the pure and true swimmers have to settle for a paltry 1500/1650. You mean both those guys who been in a pool and never peed there also race distances? Who knew?

In a pushback year, when it's just business, the Business of Butterfly commenced in relentless fashion. Big Shoulders butterfly pioneer Tom Boettcher was back for his thirteenth 5 K all fly, pounding out a sturdy swim. Tom is coming off a butterfly and ballet summer ... There is an able New Member of the elite Butterfly Club at work in the waters -- last year, Tom Maude did half his 5K butterfly, inspired by Boettcher's example and determined to make it all the way this year, pushy water or not. Today, despite the pushback, a quite pink Tom Maude emerged from the water a few hours later but better for the challenge, stroking the whole way, 5K, all butterfly. Meh, I'd respect it more if it didn't include -- nay, emphasize -- breaststroke, an obsolete stroke. Why not include trudgen crawl and sidestroke while you're at it? As I've maintained in other threads, breaststroke should be segregated as a separate sport for those specialist who can't handle the other strokes -just the way Rhythmic Gymnastics is a completely different sport for the cute little artsy people who weren't good enough for regular Gymnastics. Rhythmic Gymnastics has several events, the ball, hoop and ribbon come to mind. Our new aquatic sport could have several events too, dedicated to frog and scissor kicking.
