Training the last few days has opened my eyes to just how out of shape I am. I will take the advice and stick to the shorter events. Probably enter all strokes 50's, the 100 I.M. and the 100 free. (Fly was my thing back in the day, but I did a 100 this morning and it pretty much ended the workout). Thanks so much for the input.

I am 45 and haven't been wet on purpose, except for the shower, in about 10 years (car accident). I have gotten back in the water for about 2 weeks now and have decided to swim in a competitive race in 31 days (Sept 22). My 25 times for 12x25 fly on forever rest (3 minutes) are 12 to 13.5 seconds, but I am worried about entering a 100/200 fly and 100/200 I.M. I just want to see where I am at the competition and maybe compete in earnest for the Spring meet and/or PanAm in June, but short term...what should I do?
:cane:
You have a month
Concentrate on speed, stick short events 50's & 100's
After that get in shape for 200's

RE: Getting Back To It-Help?

You obviously still have the speed- great times for being out so long and at 45. But remember the 100/200 fly was tough enough when we were kids and in shape. Maybe the 50 instead just to break the ice? Just my :2cents:

RE: Getting Back To It-Help?

I agree with the above. Unless you put in some serious training over the next 3.5 weeks, do yourself a favor and skip the 100/200. If you do choose to do the 100, take the first 75 out VERY easy, and go for it on the last 25.

Low 12's are pretty good times for a 25 butterfly from a push...good on ya mate :applaud:
