Aside from your time for each swim they are also asking for your rest time between each swim to be included in your total time. From your first stroke on the Butterfly to your last stroke on the 1650.

Agree with you guys on the t-shirt for the Check Off Challenge. It could have been a little more imaginative. I would have signed up, but I did not like the t-shirt either.

I completed the Check Off Challenge two times in less than 12 months but that's another story. Workouts not included.

RE: Fitness Events and Challenges

(Doesn't matter to me either way; for instance I completed the Checkoff Challenge this year even though I didn't actually enter it. Davis Aquatic Masters - 4th Annual Brute Challenge
http://www.damfast.org/

I completed the Minnesota Postals last year for the first time. Received a trophy for my age group. Hilarious.

I did the Brute Challenge last year with Fort Collins. Great T-shirt. Was sad to hear the cancelled this years event. Looks like the T-shirt for DAM is pretty cool.

Sprint Pentathlon tonight.
Middle Distance Pentathlon tomorrow.
Iron Man & Brute Challenge on Saturday.

I'm knocking them out 1-2-3.

I did the 3000 Yard Postal last Thursday evening.

Well, congrats on sticking it out! I plan on Bruting some time this month. I haven't decided when yet.

Except maybe for someone who is just a terrible freestyler, I believe the way to do this event is to start with 12x25 fly on a not-too-hard interval. Whatever you lose on the 300 fly by resting this way you will more than pick back up as you negative-split the 1750 free. Basically, it is a 1750 free with a weird warm-up.

I've used the 12 X 25 strategy before, and it seemed to work OK. Can't decide if I should use it again this year.

RE: Fitness Events and Challenges

Except maybe for someone who is just a terrible freestyler, I believe the way to do this event is to start with 12x25 fly on a not-too-hard interval. Today is the first day of the Brute Squad Challenge so I tried it out. I should have picked a different day to do this. I was hurting by the 100 mark and by the 150, this was a survival swim. That is no way to swim a 2250, but I completed it. I went 29:39, which I think I should be able to improve on in the years to come.

If I take my best practice times in the brute squad events, add them up, and then add 10 seconds per 100 fly to account for swimming DPS fly instead of regular fly, this is the result: 2:15 + 4:53 + 19:06 + 0:30 = 26:44. So my time was 10.91% slower than the fastest time that I could reasonably expect to go in practice. Plenty of room for improvement...
