Let me first say that I think they really enhance the entire meet experience, especially when they draw attention to some of the great individual stories in the pool. Anyway during the men's 500 he begins commenting excitedly about one of our teammates who is apparently on his way to a PB while trying to hold off the swimmer in the next lane. So we're watching the race from the pool deck and looking at the scoreboard and saying, "Wait, what?" I mean, he's having a good swim, but it's as if we're looking at a different swimmer. As it turns out, the announcer was confused and was watching the wrong end of the pool.

RE: 2012 USMS LCM Nationals in Omaha

Elaine, I think Mission Viejo is proposing a unique 5 day meet program for next year, so don't count on the rule book order of events yet. The (very likely) unpaid announcer is there to entertain the crowd, right? As long as he/she isn't saying anything inappropriate/offensive, what's the problem? I'm sure he was just trying to make the race interesting.:bolt:

Oooookaaaayyy; I concede defeat on this issue! You all bring up good points, so I'll throw in the towel. :whiteflag:

RE: 2012 USMS LCM Nationals in Omaha

THAT GUY: Please find me tomorrow and introduce yourself. I haven't gotten to meet you yet. I've been working at the merchandise table most of the time.

ANDE: We will be attending the forums get-together. I will email you.

Sorry I missed you, Jayhawk. Your 200 *** looked strong.

RE: 2012 USMS LCM Nationals in Omaha

Nice job TG!!! I know you really were looking for that PNA time, but still a very solid swim. :applaud:

Thanks! I was tired by then and just happy to have a decent race.

RE: 2012 USMS LCM Nationals in Omaha

I would rather swim at the next Nationals! :D

Again, it isn't a matter of knowing a lot of information about each swimmer; it's a matter of saying less, not more. For all of the races, I would congratulate the winner on a "great swim" and make sure to praise them for any broken records. But, I would not point out a swimmer beating their 200 seed time by 40 seconds (or any seed time that is slaughtered by that much time), unless I knew the swimmer. To me, it is giving positive reinforcement where it may not have been due... If she really did do that much better than she thought she would do, "Great swim!" pretty much covers it anyway.

Good grief. The (very likely) unpaid announcer is there to entertain the crowd, right? As long as he/she isn't saying anything inappropriate/offensive, what's the problem?
