It's a lot of paperwork, but I applied for and got non-profit status for VMST. Let me know if you get hung up. I had conflicting advice from the IRS at first, but finally got in contact with someone who helped.

We are both actually. We are a coach owned team organized as an LLC, I'm a bit biased but feel pretty strongly that board run swim teams face far more challenges and minimal advantages.... We have also created a 501(c)3 as a separate business who's primary mission is to raise funding to cover swimmers/families who are in need of financial assistance.
