I think I counted about 45 strokes so I'll probably have more. Having said that, I can't swim the 50 in 25.99:D

Edit: actually I counted again and it seemed more like 41-42.

RE: Stroke rate on 50 meters

I'm not sure what other people consider "good", and I'm sure your height and stuff like arm length will have something to do with it. I'm 6' with a 6' armspan (square!) and I do 32-34 strokes per length at a warm-up pace, and more, probably 40 or so when I try to go fast. But I lose efficiency as I go faster. Apparently some people don't:

Yeah, I wanted to mention that height, arm span and speed will make a difference but I just wanted a rough stroke count of a good swimmer since I mainly train in 25 meter pools. I try to count my strokes and glide more and might go down to 14-15 strokes but when I sprint I have a lot more strokes.

Soon the 50 meter open air pool will open so I wanted to test what my stroke count will be in a 50 meter pool and wanted a rough number. I guess I'll be more in the 35-37 range at a warm up pace and over 40 at a fast pace.

RE: Stroke rate on 50 meters

Here's a remarkably efficient swimmer

Very violent, very hard pulls at as fast of a stroke rate as I can go without shortening the stroke too much...

I can bump my stroke rate above that, but the stroke length has to get shorter at my current strength levels and speed drops. You have to play the "happy medium" game with stroke rate and stroke length so its not as simple for each person as asking "whats a good stroke rate".

RE: Stroke rate on 50 meters

Just pull as hard as you can.

RE: Stroke rate on 50 meters

I'm not sure what other people consider "good", and I'm sure your height and stuff like arm length will have something to do with it. If the numbers are to be believed, toward the end this guy is holding 32 strokes per length going at a :51 pace (for a 50).
